Mass US protest against Iraq war

Jane Fonda: "I'm so sad that we still have to do this"
Tens of thousands of protesters have demonstrated in Washington to demand the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.
The rally comes days before Congress is to discuss President George W Bush's new strategy for Iraq - including the despatch of 21,500 additional troops.

The protesters, chanting "Bring the troops home", were joined by Vietnam War-era protester, actress Jane Fonda.

Violence continued in Iraq on Saturday, with at least 15 killed in a suicide bomb attack in a Baghdad market.

My son ,who is 19 years, intelligent but needs a match under him right now, is interested in the Airforce. As a "Mom" my fear is his stationing of course, also basic sign up years and all. And the quality of the education and experience. I am familiar with Army and the Marines. I back our troops and our Country's need for a well trained armed force but the whole idea terrifies me-does he have any control? My husband says his scores on the test and such help?

As I understand it, the Brits can overturn their government in a day, and the former prime minister has to vacate No. 10 Downing Street immediately. Wouldn't Americans be better off if we could do that with failed presidents? For now only impeachment, which has never worked, can rid us of a failed president who refuses to resign when the people have given him a vote of no confidence.

The last one was probably 'a bridge to far' In 1979! We have to put up with american propoganda movies but lets see an awesome big budget movie about how f**king awesome our armed forces are. And a few less romantic comedies with Hugh Grant. How about some ideas folks?

I do not know just what is the right course of action concerning the war in Iraq, but it disturbs me that the news media as well as politicians are all of a sudden the "experts" on what America wants when it comes to this war. Shouldn't we be asking the people who probably know more about the war in Iraq than senators and television journalists? Our soldiers are the ones risking their lives. They are the ones that have to evacuate. They are the ones who might actually know more than any politician---even if that politician is Hillary Clinton. Should we not at least ask the military leaders and the troops on the ground about how to resolve the war that they have been assigned to fight?

Both Senator McCain and Senator Clinton amongst many others are running for president. As elected officials there are suppose to be voting on bills, etc. Obviously if they are compaigning they will miss or be a no vote on some of the bills. Should they resign from their positions in order to have people in congress actually be a voice from the state these senators belong too??
Why or Why not?
