all of the men were gone too war,, so the women grabbed a work belt and kept the country rolling. The major problem came when the boys all came home and the women got used to working. They didnt want to give up their jobs.

Women had to work in the factories because there weren't enough men left here to keep them running, especially munition manufacturing. Unfortunately, as soon as the men came home, everyone expected the women to go back to being purely decorative. It wasn't until the 70s that women really went to work in large numbers.
