During the elections, we often hear about the "American Dream." It's a standart point of rhetoric in politics, but I wonder if we hear and use it so often that we don't really consider its meaning. I realize that it will mean different things to different people; that's ok. What I want to know is:

What does it mean to you?
What kind of phrases or images immediately come to mind at this expression?
Is the "American Dream" accessable to all Americans?
If not, what barriers prevent it?

Thanks!

...obsessed with Bill Clinton's man parts? I mean really, how is that political and what does it have to do with the current mess we are in? Seems like some are grasping at straws...

and was burglarizing it; u immediately grab ur shotgun and shoot that individual. Even though he didn't threaten your life and u claimed that u used it in self-defense wouldn't u (in a hypethetical sense) still be charged with involuntary manslaughter. In my opinion it would b a yes since u killed the person wihtout him threatening u. However, one of my professors said yes and other said no, and i am just so confused. Which one is true? I am talking about NJ law by the way. If someone could clarify this conflict i would really appreciate it. Thank you!!

Ralph is an honest man with the kind of values this country was founded on. Why not vote for him? Couldn't he solve all these horrendous problems?

Unless you have a visa and you cannot stay without special permission. Did you know that if you enter Mexico illegally then they will toss you in jail? Their immigration laws are more stringent than the U.S. and they enforce them.

I don't understand how petrol price can fluctuate so much. drive to work every morning and pass a Shell station twice a day. Just recently before the long weekend that same Shell station was selling unleaded @ $1.15 per litre. on my way home later that evening I pass that same Shell station and could not believe my eyes when I saw the price of $1.25 for the same unleaded fuel. How can this be? This is called Theft isn't it?
What blows my mind is how the government turns the other way and does nothing. Why don't Coles and Woolworth's increase there prices on Holidays or any other Retail shop for that fact?!
So what can be done to stop this rip off? who is to blame? and what can we do to stop this practice or do we just continue pointing fingers as parliament does and never have it resolved.
The big joke is the our government giving $2000 to convert my car to GAS. What good would this do? The only thing I see is a drop in national petrol demand which will result in a greater increase in the price of Petrol in the long run.
any answers?

I am in College right now but need some help with funding for school I understand all the other responsiblites that come along with joining and I accpet them.
I want to finish college so I can become an Officer, so once I get my B.S degree could I become an officer. I was also going to join the AFROTC when I got back for A.I.T. so how does that work if anyone has done it before being enlisted and trying to become an officer after you finish school.
