Unless you have a visa and you cannot stay without special permission. Did you know that if you enter Mexico illegally then they will toss you in jail? Their immigration laws are more stringent than the U.S. and they enforce them.

Yes ....why do you think that so many Americans are so angry about the Immigration laws not being enforced here. Did you know that you can by law be jailed for entering the US illegally? Did you also know that unless you are from Britain or Canada you have to have a visa? Did you know that if you are Canadian they give you a hard time over a traffic ticket you had in Canada and won't let you in the US but there was a Texas State Trooper shot and killed by an illegal immigrant from Mexico who had been deported once before? Imagine that.

That's actually not true. All you need currently to cross the US-Mexico border is a valid American passport which is not expired, and actually belongs to you. If you come from other countries, however, the rules vary. Canadians are allowed the same passport-only consideration. Others must obtain a Mexican visa (similar to how many from other countries must obtain US visas to enter our country).

However, if you do try to enter Mexico without valid documentation, you will be detained by the Mexican Immigration Service. Similar to if you tried to enter the US without valid documentation, you'd be detained by the US Immigration and Naturalization Service. In fact, pretty much every country out there would do something similar.

ya, and they also treat Americans like crap down there. i had a friend that was pulled over while in mexico. they put him in the back of the cop car and wouldn't tell him why they then drove around for hours and then finally dropped him off on the side of the road. everyone that comes from mexico is a hypocrite. its so messed up that they don't give a sh!t if their people cross our border. but if we do something wrong there..... there's going to be hell to pay!
Have you heard about Duane Chapman? (dog the bounty hunter) you should type his name in on the net and read about his jail stay in mexico. its also been playing on A&E. i would look into it.....

Not true unless they recently changed the law. Right now all you have to show is a valid drivers license or birth certificate. As of January 1 you'll need a passport.

I've been to Mexico without a visa, check your information. We don't need passports until 1-1-07 and it's Guadalajara.

That's not True. I've to mexico a bunch of times and only got checked comming back (actually - we only got checked less than half the times comming back).

They don't prevent anyone from driving into Mexico from California.

That's not true, You can go into mexico without a visa or anything atleast from Laredo Texas into Mexico actually you only have to pay $1 to get in at the toll and you can stay the night there. along the border is always FULL of Night Clubs and Hotel/Motels. All you need is a Gov't Issued Id card to get back in the states like Driver's License or College ID Card, State ID Card and most the time they don't even check you out, as your passing the toll into the states the guards only stop random people to check Id, And that's to re-enter the states. I'm mexican and Look mexican and Living in Texas and I have NEVER gotten stopped to check ID, and this is on the US side

Betty....my girlfriend and I, both Americans, were riding on a tour bus from Cancun to Playa del Carmen. We were on our way to take the ferry to Cozumel, when the bus was stopped by several policemen and what appeared to be soldiers all with machine guns.

The cops/soldiers boarded the bus and pointed machine guns at us all. No one said a word as the cops walked up and down the inside of the bus. Everyone was scared to death. They checked everyone and then left.

Were they looking for escaped killers?..NO..drug runners?..NO..terrorists?...NO...

THEY WERE LOOKING FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS WHO MIGHT HAVE SNUCK INTO MEXICO FROM ACROSS THEIR SOUTHERN BORDER!!
The bus driver said it was just a checkpoint for illegals.

It seems that the hypocritical Mexican government doesn't like illegal aliens sneaking into THEIR country! Can you imagine that?
It seems the're offended having to pay for people who broke into their country illegally!

Well, hey Mexico.....SO ARE WE!
