Have we become a nation of individualists that do not care as a society about others but only each of us about ourselves? Katrina seems to indicate that our society/government does not actually care because there have been no consequences, politically or otherwise to the persons that were in charge then and have not done anything about the preoblem or to prevent a re-occurance. YET, there is no outrage. no big protests. We seem as a society to care if a president has illicit sex, but not if our selfish lazy incompetent government neglects thousands of our citizens or kills thousands of non-americans for any reason. What happened to the dream?
How can we claim to be better than other nations when we are like this?
Are we falling into moral decay and doomed to expire like ancient Rome?
Any ideas how to change before we are ruined beyond redemption?

Ok, thanks to all the people who responded to my last vague questions about my husband signing up for the Navy! I shared your answers with him, and he thanks you, but he now wants to ask you guys another question.

He's going to get his BA in Cinema at the U of Iowa, but he wants to know if he has to have a specific bachlor degree to attend OCS in Florida. Do they accept any bachlor degree?

i am from canada,I am 19 years old, i just paid for my college education in september.
i had a very clean criminal record, no fights, no nothing. i did something really stupid, i got a new job @ a warehouse and i stole couple of things from them ( about $1000 worth of it) and got caught. now the police is involved and they have given me a appearance date in the court. i feel like killing myself. i did not tell my parents and i am not going too under any circumstances. i want to contact a lawyer and do something about it, but i am just so confused right now that i can not think. i have ruined my life with this. is their any possible way i can be helped i am ready to do anything possible. i was highly misguided that draged me into this. i am short on money since i pay for my college, i do not know what to do. please do not ask me why did i do it or i was to stupid.. if you can please advise me @ this moment. shall i go to a lawyer or just appear in the court @ the given date?

If you sneak attack a country and kill thousands of people, all the while talking peaceful on the political side at the same time, should you not pay the price?

Japan was warned before either bomb was dropped and they still did not heed the warning. They were even told which city was going to be hit each time.

I personally think it says a lot about the US Military that only two were dropped in the span of 3 days, and warning was given prior to both. Any other weapon and it would have been used extensively, and without warning. The bombs were not dropped in hate, they were not dropped carelessly. They were dropped to stop a determined enemy that would not surrender unless faced with total annihilation.

Estimates are that Millions of people would have died had the US invaded Japan, on both sides. This was a war started by a Japanese sneak attack against America. America's answer was more than Japan could handle.

Do not pretend you just want them to come legally because they deserve better..you just want to fool them into leaving and apply the legal way..Like they are so stupid to believe that .Mexicans are very intelligent and they know how long it will take them to come legally..So they are not going to starve in mexico because you feel they should come the legal way..If you really want them to better them self ..Let them come with out papers..Who cares..They deserve to make money just like us Welcome to America!!and i hope you make all the money you want here.I don't care if you have papers or not..you are human like all of us and you deserve the same as us!! It seems to me I remember the Gestapo saying the same thing during World War 2. I live in Hong Kong (rich) and the richest part of china is across the border from HK. HK uses Senzhen for manufacturing and cheap labour. Illegal workers in HK are sent back to china.
My point- Is the usa stealing cheap labour industries from Mexico, by using illegal-cheap workers?
You would think the richest part of Mexico would be on the border with the states. Yet one of the richest parts of the USA is Southern California.
