All punishment has an element of revenge in it.
In order for ANY punishment to have value, it must be at least as bad as the crime, or else crime pays. (steal $5million and pay $5 thou fine, why not steal? pay $5 million for stealing $5 thou, better not steal!)
40 yrs ago, a youth that stole a car for a quick joyride might see 20 yrs in prison. car theft was relatively rare.
today it is a few months at best. That crime is rampant!
give a killer LIFE? no way! give them death!
Remember if the death penalty is on the books, the CRIMINAL chooses to be punished by commiting the crime that brings that punishment upon him
The Bible says that the law is not written for the just, but for the unjust and lawless.
The bible (new testament) is pro Death penalty (not eye 4 eye tooth 4 tooth) but it states that the king does not hold the power of the sword for no reason
(the government hold the power of death when warranted

My boyfriend's driver's license was taken by the state of Michigan for "life" 27 years ago at the age of 18. He got two drunk driving tickets in less than 12 hours. Doesn't the punishment seem extreme for an 18 year old, especially 27 years ago?(seems worse than the jail/prison time one would get today for same offense!) He says "life" is 50 years and should be eligible for a driver's license in 2013. Can this be reversed somehow? It makes it difficult for him to find/keep steady employment!

This is a valid issue for a number of reasons, the key one being ''American sacrifice'. Like it or not, we are a nation at war. It is still the very early stages. It has not yet expanded into what it will become as populations grow and a new generation with a new form of radicalism comes along to seduce people who as children have only know war into action. As a result of 'being at war' (again, this is not meant as a forum for discussions on the validity of said war--there are plenty of other questions popping up no doubt hourly on that very topic--this is a question on 'willingness to sacrifice), is it appropraite for our taxes to be raised a trifle to may for security and the effort, instead of wasted on partisan issues on both the left and the right and the momentary hysterical distractions people are worried about to avoid considering the climate of fear? If you do not think they should be raised (again, not because you are against the war--that is any longer irrelevant), why?

as per the visa waiver form that all visitors have to sign when entering the USA.
If for whatever reason this "alien" stays in the country and are caught, then this person has no rights whatsoever. No Phone calls. nothing.
Is this legal according to humanitarian and human rights?

People with border-line disabilities are always told ,thereis nothing
really wrong with them.Often pushed to the wayside;when they try to improve-it's one step forward three steps backword. Like myself
the past fifty years from birth here in Perth,Western Autralia-has
been quite fustrating and demanding.
However,at long last, thanks to slow patient commication with dealing with only the necessities of life-I am finding out that, there is no need to what anyone thinks of your abilities (or lack of).

Perverted-Justice.com - Ever been there. I think it's great!!! They have busted so many pedophiles, it's amazing. They smear the wanna be pedo's all over their website, and the conversation that took place during the bust. I think there should be a link to this site on every website around, so it would atleast put a dent in the online pedo's. Sad thing is.. None of them have a stereotype look. Some look like a brother, or a father... now..granted some are strange.. Some have a kids and a wife... and have sent that picture out to the child they are trying to pick up. How sick is that?!
I am signing up to be on their team. Anyone else interested. I mean, dedicated to getting the scum of the earth, off the internet?

I think that the law is pretty clear and it is this:
If you (enter crime here) then you have chosen to forfiet your life by means of the death penalty.
The subsequent commision of the crime is a tacit acceptance of both the law and the penalty.
The arguement of 'it is wrong for the state to kill if it is wrong for the individual to kill" is erroneous.
There are severe enough crimes that cannot be paid for in any other way.
If I steal, I can replace. If i cause hurt, I can pay medical bills. I can pay restitution for many things. But for Death I cannot repay. I cannot fix it and I have coause the society such grevious harm that there is NO penalty other than death that is just.

What do you think?

Ok ok...i want to do something good for the world, and I also want to make a lot of money. Im pretty good with guns and survival and was thinking about going to guerilla training (you know, when im not acting or working at the grocery store) and then going to foreign countries and hunting down warlords and people that harm others and are wanted by the US Government and Interpol...I know congress passed a bill to reward 2 million dollars to the capture of the former president of Liberia (Charles Taylor I believe). So how would one get in on such action, how could one learn the ways of a guerilla assassin?

I would love to debate specific issues with liberals, but most of what I see here is childish name calling, hatred of the president and conservatives, and conspiracy theories.
I am a conservative and I don't hate libs. I just don't get them.

Okay. I work in a day care center. and I was told after turning a child in timeout to face the wall that that was considered corporal punishment and that we cant do that anymore... And so I'm honestly wondering why that is so, considering there is no corporal (bodily) involvement at all... can anyone give me any ideas on why we cant turn children towards the wall anymore? Or where i can find an official list of what the recent do's and dont's of corporal punishment are? thanks.
