I think only the USA cares about Iraq. The rest of the world was willing to sit by and let Saddam continue to kill, rape, torture, and otherwise brutalize his own people and his neighbors. The U.N. being the papertiger it is, talked. Yeah they did resolution after resolution, while Saddam broke them and laughed in their faces. They did nothing else, just talk. The rest of the world did nothing. Only the USA, and a handful of allies were up for the task. Sorry, I didn't mean to make light on the allied support. A few other countries helped, some more than others. Some stayed until the going go tough (Spain), others stayed the course (UK).

Iraqi's care about themselves and I think alot of americans care too.
Iraq is one of the more educated of middle eastern country's and there is a lot of christians also (chaldeans).
There are some that say this war is all about oil but I'm not so convinced.
Of course it would make sense to have a stable enviroment in a country that some of the largest oil reserves.
But Sadam Hussein had brutilized the people of his country for many years.
And I for one am proud that our country had the kahones to step up to the task of removing him.
Sadam made it all possible by invading Kuwait a sovern country.

Iran cares very much about what happens in Iraq.
Saddam (a Sunni) suppressed the Shiite majority under Sunni rule. Shiites are in power in Iran, which Saddam fought in a war that lasted 8 years.
With Saddam out of power, the Shiites, who are strong in southern Iraq , are now unchained. A huge part of their desire is to join their Iranian brothers, to unite southern Iraq - and its immense oil fields- with its neighbor....Iran.
Iranians would love this, as the only oil in Iraq lies beneath the southern and northern regions. The northern region is dominated by Kurds, who also desire autonomy.
If Iraq should fracture in a civil war, the Shiites would most likely gravitate toward a theocracy, under the rule of the 3 Ayatollahs who are the de facto rulers of Iran.
This is precisely why many feared the decapitaion of Saddam would lead to a fracture of Iraq , a civil war, and the rise of the Ayatollahs.

All of the Middle East countries have a Moslem majority and care about their Moslem brothers (except for Israel--how are scared of them.)
Iran is providing arms and insurgents to fight the US, and would love to take it over.
Syria would love to take it over. They also seem to provide a lot of the Insurgent leaders (or at least they seem come from there).
Saudi Arabia and Kuwait feared that Sadam Hussein would invade. Now that the US has taken over they see it as a source of insurgents and violence.
Pakistan, a US ally hopes that the new government will open its trading markets and become a trading partner.
Al Jazeera based in Qatar is broadcasting to them and supports Moslem rights and is worried about the US aggression.
In short (too late) most Moslems fear the US aggression against Iraq, hence the homegrown terrorists. Even as far away as Indonesia they care. That explains why so much world opinion is against the US (that and most of the world's population are Moslem).

I can't believe people eat crap so willingly, any government would be proud of some of these people, the only people that truly care about Iraq are the Iraqi's and probably the Iranians, because they want to turn Iraq into another Iran.

United States cares about the good people of Iraq. We are just trying to get rid of the terrorists and insurgents in that country so that they can lead a decent life.

As far as national interests are concerned, people don't really care about Iraq, just the economic interest vested in its geography. As far as human rights are concerned, probably the big UN human rights countries care, like the US or the UK.

I think the west genuinely cares about Iraq - especially the countries that haven't pulled out from the coalition. (Australia, UK, etc.) I think it's a flawed argument that people make about oil.
