Most city's ban parking in alley way's do to fire trucks needing threw . In order for this to be enforced there most be one of the following.
A. Signs up at both entrance and exit and/or no parking signs posted.
B. Painted yellow or red curbs. ( yellow no parking, red fire lane )
If there is no signs and/or painted curbs. Fight it in court. Take pictures of the area and show the judge and/or hearing officer the pictures and request a court date. The issuing officer " MUST " appear in court or the ticket must be dismissed due to you have the right to confront and defend yourself and ask them how can they enforce a no parking zone w/ no signs or painted curbs. If you fight it most judges or hearing officers w/ drop the ticket.

It depends on how much the ticket is.
I would think, since it is right behind your house, that it would be part of YOUR PROPERTY.
There are no signs to warn you and if you're not obstructing traffic or garbage pick up, I would contest it.
I think you have a good case that a judge would look at, after hearing all the facts and rule in your favor.
You should have gotten a warning first.
That just doesn't sound right to me.
If you have the time and the ticket is really high, I would go to where ever you go to pay the ticket and inform them that you want to contest it. They'll tell you what to do, from there.
I REALLY DO think the judge would side with you on this one.
You should have atleast gotten a warning slip first.
You've been parking there for 6 years. How could you have possibly known you were doing anything wrong?
Poor thing. Good luck on this one!
I too have an alley that runs behind my house and we, the neighbors, park out there sometimes too!
If I had gotten a ticket, I would be stunned just like you!

Find out who gave you the ticket. Did the cop have jurisdiction? Also is the area that you parked in your property? Find that out. If the person who gave you the ticket was out of their jurisdiction, the ticket holds no weight in court. Unless it was a state cop. But even so if the plot you parked on was your property, it will also be dismissed.

If you are blocking the through traffic, then there's probably nothing you can do, the ticket is probably deserving. Either buy the land where the alley lies, or pay the ticket. What is it, $5?

Honestly, just pay it. If it only happened once in 6 years, then parking illegally for convenience outweighs the $15 fine. If it happens again, however, then you can fight it and plead your case.
