i am a little hesitant about getting one. i've had a hamster b4 but never a rat and there are lik those horror movies about rats and what not. but then everyone was like omg they are so sweet they come wen called ect. so do they really make good pets? and also are fancy rats just as sweet as regular rats. and is there a diffrance between a rat and a mouse??

I am a beginner dwarf hamster breeder. I have done a lot of research, and have currently seen multiple successful breedings of 2 pairs of hamsters. I have now removed the males from the females, deciding to house the females together. My reason for this: to ensure the females do not become impregnated again after birth. My question therefore is: is it ok to house these two females together with their young? if one gives birth before the other, will it kill the other's babies?

they always jump around in thier cages like they hopp on the side and jump around and run back and fourth. anyone know why?

i let them run around in my room every other day, i let them run around yesturday. hmph.

my rat is pregnant i want to know how far along she is she is pregnant enough to where her nipples are starting to show and she is very aggressive she is taking the newspaper i put in the cage for her up to her hammock and is alway up there until she get hungry or wants to come down for more paper or water her belly is very big but no babies yet i don't know when she got pregnant she just really really started showing like a week ago

Hi my two rats have baby's one litter is just over a week old they have there color and one that had baby's 5 days ago. I'm a small animal breeder and would like to put some gerbils in the cage that the other one is in or should i wait until the baby's leave there mother then do it.

i just got my hamster yesterday and it is a very nice male teddy bear hamster. the cage i got for it had like a tube thing and there was a "bedroom" for the hamster at the top of the tube. today, after i came home from school, i lifted up the top of the "bedroom" cos i wanted to play with my hamster. (it was awake) when i was holding it, the hamster kept trying to jump off my hand. i put it back into the cage. 10 minutes later, i went to check on it and i tried to put it in the "bedroom" cos that was his fav. place. he didn't seem to like anymore. i think he doesn't feel safe in his "bedroom" anymore. then i tried holding it again and it bit me on my finger. i dropped him back in the cage. 30 minutes later, i checked on him again and he was sleeping in a corner of the cage. i feel bad because after i lifted him out of his bedroom, it's like he's afraid to go there again. when can i do to make him not be afraid? thanks!

My guinea pig has been acting strange lately and has been sqweeking and scratching like she is itchy. I have checked her fur and she has no fleas and no mites or dandruff... Alos when I picked her up this morning she was twitching like something was biting her... What could it be?? It seems to be worse at night time.

Which rodents can have baths? Which rodents can not? I knwo guinea pigs, chinchillas, etc are not rodents but you get what I mean!!

I just dont understand why the bottles keep leaking. I bought the best one I could find and yet it still leaks. Our guniea pig is always out of water we fill it twice a day. The bottom of the cage turns into a muddy mess. I have to keep giving pig showers. He smells great but the cage has to be cleaned contantly.... grrrrr. HELP!

I realized that the mom hamster wasn't moving nor breathing, so my curiosity took me into " poking " her , then flip her over .. just to make shur. By the side view, it seemed like the babies were sucking on her, for milk. yet, it wasnt it .. Her stomach was widely open and the babies were eating her insides. I'm not quite shur how old are the babies, yet there eyes aren't open .. What should I do now ? Will they be able to live without there mom's milk ? or do i gotta put up some milk for them ? ahhh.. I really have no idea on giving them food nor drink ? :S HELPPP !

Well lately alot of earwigs have been getting into the guinea pigs cage and about 40 at a time the guinea pigs dont seem to care but i am worries if the earwigs are biting them or annoying them so i clean them out alot What should i do.


PS. it cant be the hay or anything like that beacause we have always used the same hay and they never came before.

i already had a male guinea pig and he got lonely so i got another male and they fought so i traded him back to the store for a female. is it normal that my male isnt fully grown and yet he is all over the female. and do they have like a ritchual or something that they do when they are mating?

I was cleaning my rabbits cage today when I noticed she has a spot under her chin with no hair! It is right in between her "chin" and her dewlop thing. There is one spot where it looks like the fur is regrowing because it is very short and one spot where it is just bald. She is a Nertherland Dwarf named Lucky, she is 4 years old. There is no way she is pregnant so nest building is not an option. I am probably going to go see the vet if I can't figure anything out. PLEASE help me!!!

I'm wondering if this is from lack of vitamin C, but my guinea pig is losing hair like crazy and has big bald spots all over. Her skin is starting to get irritated from it though. She's had this before and we cured it with neem oil but it came back and we're doing the same. It seems a lot worse this time around though. Are there any different foods I could feed her (we give her regular guinea pig food, oranges, and a lot of lettuce. basically any kind of fruits/veggies we have; often from a garden using nothing but water and sun.), or any type of medicine to give her? Does anyone know what this is? She's fine other than that. She gets a lot of attention, and is healthy otherwise. I'm guessing she's about 4 because I picked her out when she was just born and I got her when she was ready. She's an Abyssinian by the way.

im not sure when to sell mines it's been about a month since my own guinea pig gave birth (gramcrackers) to 2 guinea pigs but im not sure because it seems like at least once everyday she still nurses them (milk) and thats why im not sure and im worried that if i do give them away they'll scream and stuff but im only selling two but they dont make that much noise when im holding them for about 15mins maybe i should test them like put them in a diffrent box or cage for a day but i wana hear from you guys

i recently purchased two female guinea pigs and now one of them is having health problems. she is losing fur all around her eye and it is getting dryed out and scabby with little white bumps. And yes, i did call the vet right away, but Ms. knows nothing receptionist tells me that they are all booked today and the best she can do is take a message to the vetrinarian and that maybe he will get back to me soon. PLEASE HELP!!
