I just dont understand why the bottles keep leaking. I bought the best one I could find and yet it still leaks. Our guniea pig is always out of water we fill it twice a day. The bottom of the cage turns into a muddy mess. I have to keep giving pig showers. He smells great but the cage has to be cleaned contantly.... grrrrr. HELP!

Your guinea pig could be playing with the water bottle. That's what ours does & he'll often spill half the bottle within a matter of hours, especially on hot days. He's got toys, he gets plenty of attention but he still does this & I hope he gets tired of it before the weather cools down. None of our other small animals do this, although if you give them water in a dish they'll make a glorious mess.

First I want to point out that the water bottle feed tube is high enough off the bedding so it does not get contaminated, but low enough for the piggy to reach. The modern water bottle has a stainless steel tube with a steel ball inside, fitted to a plastic bottle. None of these parts are precision made and that is why the bottle leaks. The other main reason is that it usually gets filled with water with a cooler temperature than the air in the house. When the air warms the bottle it will put pressure on the bottle & water and force it out the tube and there you have the drip. Now add gravity to that not so precision ball and tube set and you get another reason for the drip. Solution? Keep the cage clean weekly (small cage 2-3 days) with minimum 1-inch Aspen or Pine bedding. Touch up daily! Fill water bottle daily to the top. My brand: Hartz Mt./LM Farms. My setup: 1 pig, 30"x18" cage, about 3 cup bottle.

Making sure the bottle is closed tightly is one answer. Another reason all the water can leak out into the bedding is if the bedding gets kicked into a pile under the water bottle so it's pushing on the spout. My worst leak was when my young son "helped" me assemble the bottle, missing an important piece. Not saying that's your problem.

you do no longer decide to place water in a bowl they'll tip that over interior of seconds of putting it of their cage and that they gained't have the flexibility to get water. The bottles they make suck and are not geared up to final. I even have long previous via 3 bottles with my hamsters and a pair of bottles with my ferrets. I even have offered the costliest to the main inexpensive to be certain which one is the terrific and prefer I pronounced all of them suck. the only ingredient i understand of that reasons that's if the bottle is to important for the animal they'd desire to push harder and this makes the bottle tear up greater rapidly. I propose in case you hear at nighttime with hamsters and that they are vigarasly eating from the bottle and making lots of noise then the water bottle won't final a week. you will desire to get precisely the the terrific option length which for a hamster isn't any greater effective than 4oz and the critter canteen seems to artwork the terrific of each and all of the crappy ones i've got tried. It has a tendency to offer up leaking after a minute. the issue I even have with that one is that as quickly as you screw the the terrific option on especially situations it is going to fall off in the event that they're to tough with it. in case you have been basically getting one drop of water at a time you will possibly in all probability tear up your botttle to. additionally you don't desire a bottle with a ball bearing that strikes up and down those bottles somewhat suck and could no longer final very long and leak somewhat badly. i'm hoping this permits you!

Same exact thing happened to me turns out when my piggies were drinking they kept loosing the bottle so what i did i would make it real tight. Trust me it is not the bottle. It is your piggie. This happens especially when he pulled the bottle from side to side cause that little wire dose not cut it. Try putting something next to the bottle to stop it from moving. Hope i helped have a wonderful day :^)
