It might be stress, or it could be mycoplasma:

No, if he has myco, it can't be treated with home remedies. I'd suggest finding an exotics specialist (or, in a pinch, a sensible "cat-and-dog" vet). Preferably an exotics vet. Myco needs antibiotics.

If it's just stress, it'll get better once he's had time to get used to his new surroundings (I'm assuming you got him fairly recently).

Has he got a same-sex friend? Rats need other rats to be happy.

Do a search on the following site for info on rats in general, quarantine of new rats, and intros. http://www.goosemoose.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,118/forum,rat

Edit: NO citrus fruit for male rats! Citrus fruit causes cancer in male rats. Rats get enough cancer as is! http://www.rmca.org/Articles/oj.htm - the article only mentions orange juice, but it applies to all citrus.

Why don't you call petco and see if anyone there knows about rats. Unfortunately, I don't know anything--I would guess allergies.

If his environment has changed recently that may have something to do with it. To be safe you should take him to a vet before it develops further. It should be treatable with gentle antibiotics but it could progress and kill him if untreated!

Could be fall allergies; animals get them, too. Ask your vet if pet should be on medication.

animals can catch colds too.
You can offer him some orange slices and fresh vegetables too.
