Reptiles - November 2006

Hi,
I am buying a Children's Python not long from now and I have all the equiptment I need, except the flooring.
I am not sure what to put, I have heard a few suggestions such as...
-Pebblies or Kitty litter
-Sand
-Bark
which one should I put in?

Also, if I were to get sand, if I but dye in it, would it effect the snake?

we have a baby water turtle, and hes getting to be to much to handle. should we let him go? he cant fend for himself since he has always been with us.

I lost my baby red eared slider turtle on 11/14/06 on my desk when I wanted it to walk and I took it out of its cage its was on my desk then i was paying to much atention to my computer and 15 minuts later I didn't see it.How long will it live without water.I have a heater thats atached to the house could my turtle fell trough the heater or could it be a little hole on my door could it crawled out.I have no dogs or cats so nothing ate it.Can I still find it even if it will past 5 days or more and will it live?How long should I wait until I get a new turtle?How long can it live without food and water?Where are good hiding spots that turtles can reach?Will a turtle move from the hiding spot because my turtle usaly just hinds under its shell when its in its cage and only move when I grab it or hold it?How long until my red eared slider dies?If it has no water can it still live for a few days?If I checked all over the desk I lost it where is a nother place it may go?what spots it may hide?

This is more of an observation. My Boa Constrictor has bitten me various times, but this is something that gets me. They say not to jump back when it happens so you won't pull any teeth out, which is easier said than done 'cause I'm 100% reflex, babe.

She was eating fine before. Shes about 4 months old. 4 inches. She was eating medium sized crickets now. Shes now opening her mouth and making a hissing noise whilke areching her head back. Almost looks like hic ups. What should i do.

Hi! I'm really worried about my baby turtle! I'd not sure if he's sick or if it's normal.. his name is Scratch by the way, and he takes in gulps of air. He lays on top of a rock and every once in a while he opens his mouth and breaths(at least i think it's a breath).

Yesterday, my dad changed the tank to add a filter and my baby got caught in between the area separating the larger land and the filter area. He was flipped on his back and I was really relieved he wasn't dead! Anyways, when I found him he seemed o.k. but then the next morning I found him breathing in gulps. (his mouth open and his neck stretching to take in the air every 3-5 seconds i think.)

I wonder if this is trauma or if it's respiratory infection or if it's his new breathing technique..which i hope it is..

If it's a sickness can anyone recommend a vet that isn't expensive? My parents would never pay for it to save a turtle...I really really don't want it to die. (vnv;) or is there a medicine I could buy? Help Me!

We found our little leopard gecko, Gidgette, dead in her cage today.We're not sure exactly how old she was, but we got her 3 years ago. According to my daughter she hadn't been eating as much as usual. We also found what appeared to be a bloody stoole in her cage. Anyone have a similar situation? I believe she may have had internal parasites???
