Hi! I'm really worried about my baby turtle! I'd not sure if he's sick or if it's normal.. his name is Scratch by the way, and he takes in gulps of air. He lays on top of a rock and every once in a while he opens his mouth and breaths(at least i think it's a breath).

Yesterday, my dad changed the tank to add a filter and my baby got caught in between the area separating the larger land and the filter area. He was flipped on his back and I was really relieved he wasn't dead! Anyways, when I found him he seemed o.k. but then the next morning I found him breathing in gulps. (his mouth open and his neck stretching to take in the air every 3-5 seconds i think.)

I wonder if this is trauma or if it's respiratory infection or if it's his new breathing technique..which i hope it is..

If it's a sickness can anyone recommend a vet that isn't expensive? My parents would never pay for it to save a turtle...I really really don't want it to die. (vnv;) or is there a medicine I could buy? Help Me!

It sounds like a touch of pneumonia from getting trapped.

For the next couple weeks, keep the water a bit warmer than usual (80-85 instead of 75-80) and as clean as you can get it (once you fix the filter so it cannot get trapped any more)

Minimize stress- handling it, staring at it, loud noises, etc. and offer the best food you can.

Mouth Rot its worry-unfastened in all pink eared sliders...usually led to while the the scales of the fish it eats gets caught interior the returned of the throat....this reasons weezing and gasps of air....although, if the turtle isn't taking in adequate oxygen, then it may bring about recommendations harm or dealth. Mouth rot is cared for rather....the vet takes a q-tip and gets the foodstuff out from the returned of the throat pay attention....dont attempt to handle mouth rot your self...u can heavily harm ur turtle. attempt going to a petsmart. in some cases they have vets their that handle turtles.

i would say he is sick.
i a red ear slider, and 2 yellow bellie.
if i were u i would TRY to get him to a vet.

how long was he on his back?
when turtles are on their backs they CANT BREATH. this happends because their lungs are near the top of their shell and every thing is pressed against them.
if he was that way for very long it may have damaged a lung.

please mail me if you need anything else
i am so sorry!!!!

What you have described is definitely a sign of a respiratory infections. Try to warm the water and keep it very clean....BUT you need to get it to a Reptile VET ASAP.
