Babies can be tricky to identify for newbies, and even for experts.

Vets CAN help if they are good with tortoises, but your better bet is to contact a local 'herpetologist' or reptile enthusiast. Try the local university or zoo for recommendations.

SOME pet shops have good reptile people there, but that can be really hit or miss.

When we had a turtle we actually took it to the vet. Thats how we knew it was a she not a he. The Vet should be able to help you out, if all the other suggested methods fail.

Get a book called "Turtles & Tortoises For Dummies" By Liz Palika. It has everything you need to know about your pet :)
