We found our little leopard gecko, Gidgette, dead in her cage today. We're not sure exactly how old she was, but we got her 3 years ago. According to my daughter she hadn't been eating as much as usual. We also found what appeared to be a bloody stoole in her cage. Anyone have a similar situation? I believe she may have had internal parasites???

I'm not sure where the two answerer's above me got their information, but Leopard Geckos are Insectivores and some will take pinkie mice. They will not eat vegetables and should not be eating vegetables.

Also, Leopard Geckos do not die from their tails falling off. It's a defense mechanism and is normal when stressed enough or being held by a predator. they also do not need fluorescent lights. they are nocturnal and generally are not found out basking during the day, but rather in their burrow/den.

To the two people above me, please cite your sources for the information you provided.

So sorry to hear about your gecko baby.

A lot of people buy exotics and never take them to a vet, when in actuality, they need to be seen, just like cats and dogs. Internal and external parasites are very, very common! When my EX bought my kids a snake and a bearded dragon, I insisted on bringing them in to me at the clinic I worked for a close inspection, also insisting that I get a fresh stool sample to check for intestinal parasites.

Please, if you go to buy another, just call your vet and ask if they see exotics and have it checked out. Again, sorry to hear about this. I don't know enough about them to help you otherwise.

there are a number of parasites and ailments that could kill a gecko, and between the main problem-unfastened indicators isn't eating. the only thank you to be attentive to for specific is to have a necropsy accomplished on the physique. different than that, it is going to continually be a secret.

Yes, I have had the same problem. I brought my brother two leopard geckos and they both stopped eating and died within a 1-2month span. We did everything, even took it to the vet and we still did not know what to do or why they became ill. If you find out any answers please let me know.

Most likely intestinal blockage, this is caused by wrong food sources or food source to big. At three she should be eating veggies; or could be some cage substrate ingested, like sand, bark or whatever you have in the bottom of the cage
