I want to know what vaccinations to give to a pregnant mare. She is now 8 months pregnant. Is it ok to get a coggins on her? can i get her west nile? what dewormer is safe for her and the unborn foal? what other vaccinations should she get and when? what about the foal when it is first born? (due in early-mid June) When should I stop trailering her around? she is very calm and quiet in the trailer though. She loves going places and I was wondering if it would be okay if I took her to the local playday a few times. I know I should quit riding her like a month before she is due, but was wondering if it would still be okay to stand around bareback at the playday and maybe trot around the barrels if she is up to it. this is her first foal.

I have 2 large hermit crabs and have had to purchase several sponges for them because they eat them (I do see a few extremely small pieces of sponge in their tank, but not enough to equal what is missing from the sponge, that's why I think they're eating them). There is plenty of food in there, so that's not the problem. Has anyone else had this problem, if so, do you know why they do this?

I'd like to give my ferrets an occasional treat. When the weather is warm they get a little bit of ice cream but apart from that...I read everywhere...there's not a lot else they can have.

Any suggestions?

I bought two baby hamsters last week, but it turned out that one was a boy, and since I don't want to have more baby hamsters, I opted to give the boy back and get another girl hamster instead. The new hamster is a little older, maybe by a month or two, I'm not sure. They are the same breed of dwarf hamster, I think Campbell. When I brought the new one home today, I put her in the cage, and kept the old one in the exercise ball for the time being, because I had to go to work and I didn't want them fighting when I wasn't there to break it up. I came back and put them together, and the new hamster attacked the old one :-( Right now I'm washing the whole cage out to get rid of smells. I read that if I put the new one in and let her run around a bit, then put the old one in, they should get on better. Does anyone know?

A close friend of mine owns a farm and has several horses, taking many in for rehoming.

However he has one horse who, whilst good to ride and amiable enough towards humans, doesn't get along with the other horses; he has approached me and asked if I would like to take the horse off of his hands.

I already have many cats and dogs, but have never kept a horse. We live on an old smallholding with a few acres and an old breezeblock barn that could easily be converted in to a roomy stable, as my dad is a keen ex-bricklayer with time to kill.

I know horses are a lot of work, and my friend is willing to show me the ropes. I have time and resources to care for said horse, but is the neccesarily a godd idea seeing as the largest thing I've looked after before is a Great Dane?

Of course the horse would be spoiled rotten but I couldn't ride it (but have friends who could occassionally take it out. Would this be OK for the horse? It'd have about 3 acres or grassland to itself.

Instead of castrating my pup, can't I just have him sterilized by vasectomy? Maybe this is anatomically impossible.

I'd love a dog but i have a small flat and am out at work from 8am to 6pm so couldn't have one. What kind of pet could i get for company (recently split up from my boyfriend and am feeling a bit sad and lonely). I don't like cats so wouldn't get one of those. I was thinking about a mouse or something like that - do they need a lot of care? Any suggestions? Not too into birds either and i wouldn't be able to interact with a fish! Thanks x

My mouse is pregnant, but I don't know when she is due. She looks like she swallowed a golf ball. I was wanting to know what signs to look for other than nesting. I have noticed that she has been breathing fast the last few weeks since she has gotten big, I don't know if they do that or if something might be wrong. If anyones knows anything about pregnant mice please give advice. I also have noticed she is not as active today. She is still eating and drinking, but she has gotten big over the last week. I know they are pregnant only for 19-24 days, with 21 being the norm. Please respond as soon as you can, so I can keep an eye out on her. Thank you.

My landlord doesn't allow pets and my roommates are scared of them. So, I need a pet that's not smelly, small and quiet. Something that I can keep in my room. It has to be a secret! Any suggestions

the room is pretty spacy but my niece would like it there for her to keep an eye on it and since she's taken a like for it i wouldn't mind (she's a deeo) sleeper too, but she is allergic to nuts and has eczema so i know she's prone to allegies-there shouldn't be an issue with it there-right?

i think my ferret has the flu, but i'm not sure, and it's to late to take it to the vet.
some of the things my ferret has been doing, is sneezing a lot, and shivering a lot. i put an old sweater with him, which he seemed to like, because he fell asleep almost instantly.
he also drank a lot of water, so i don't believe he's dehydrated. but i don't know what to do,
so could someone help?

Hello, i posted a similar question earlier, but i wanted to make a seperate one just for this issue in particular.
This is the second day i have had my ferret and i am tempted to take him back. He is being pretty mean.
Ill let him out of his cage for a while, and he will be fine for an hour but just out of nowhere he will turn aggressive and start jumping at me teeth first and hopping back. He do a backflip or 7 and do it again while making a snorting noise. He does this without me really doing anything, ill be watching him.
WHen he does get ahold of me, hell bite whatever it is hes closest to. Whether it be my feet, hands, chest, or neck. If i dont pull him off, he would draw blood. Ive been doing what somebody said was to after they bite, hold them by their scruff for a few seconds. Doesnt work, hell just bite some more. I also dont know if my size intimidates it? Im 6' 2", 260lbs. And this guy is 6 months old. I like him alot. But i wont keep it if it just wants to bite me.
