I'm trying to teach him self defense.

I'm trying to release him back in the wild, but I worry the wild monkeys may harm him. I thought teaching him to defend himself would be a good idea.

Well for those that just want to answer with the rude comments, I guess that they can't see the sarcastic humour that's obvious.
Therefore I say give him a shoutgun so it'll make it harder for him to miss.

Logically thinking: ~Some monkeys can be trained and some can't. For an example which can't be trained, a baboon. But, if you're sure you can train your monkey to handle a gun and to really examine the kind of situation carefully; then I'll say it's ok. To start training a monkey how to use a gun, you better not load it first. (For safety issues)
My oppinion: ~ it's best that you don't teach it how to use a gun. It wouldn't know the importance of it. It may use it as a toy. And it may hurt other animals in the wild or kill a human being by mistake.

You want to give him a gun when you let him out in the wild so he can defend himself. Why would you do that. Has he ever been out in the wild? If you don't want him anymore then why you just don't give him to someone else. Interview some people that are interested in having a monkey as a pet and see if he likes them or not.
