First let me say, tomorrow morning Finky is going to the vet. I just need to know if anyone else has seen this or has any idea of what it is. She is a White Fancy Rat about 2.5 yrs old. She has what appears to be a large growth behind her front leg and her side appears to be swollen. It doesn't seem to be slowing her down and still comes for her nightly treat. Any suggestions of what this is? My son said he saw it last night but just thought she was laying odd like it was fat or something. I usually check on her about once every 3 or 4 days to be sure she has food and water, so I haven't seen it. It appeared over about a 3 day period. Help....

The other day at the vet clinic I work at, two women got out of their two different cars at the same time. One had a dog, one had a cat in a pet carrier. The woman with the cat took the cat out of the pet carrier outside of the clinic (smart, huh?). The cat got scared that the dog was there and took off up a tree. It was about 25 up in the tree when the firefighters got there. They decided to hose the cat with their fire hose while the owner watched. I guess they figured when the cat fell down out of the tree terrified and soaking wet, it would run into their arms out of gratitude. Well, it didn't. It took off into the field behind the clinic and noone has seen it since. The woman threatened to sue the clinic and the woman with the dog - which will lead to nowhere.

Are they supposed to get cats down like that now? Is that the newfangled thing to do? I just don't understand why they did that. Does anyone have any ideas about why?

I just moved into an apartment (from parents house). I am at home very other weekend. The weekends I am gone I am visiting my boyfriend. I would like to get a small pet (rat mouse gerbil hamster). I do work and go to school during the day. I come home to an empty apartment and was thinking of getting a small pet to come home to. given my current lifestyle which type of pet should I get if any at all? Will this pet be okay to stay alone over a weekend without any attention? how many should I get, two to keep each other company durign the day and weekend. what type of cage is recommended.
I have always wanted rats but not sure if they are suited for my lifestyle. please help give me some advice to make my decision.

thanks

I have several cans of the same type and brand as some of the recalled dog food, but the expiration date and the UPC code do not match the ones on the recall list, but I am still afraid to feed them to my dogs. What if they come out next week with more to add to the list and the ones I have are on that list? Do you think I am being paranoid? Would you feed canned soft food with gravy to your pet even if it was not on the list of recalls? My dogs really love their can of soft food once a day and they have been missing it this week, but I am really scared to feed them anything. I do not want to cause them to be sick or die. They trust me and I want to do the best thing for them. Maybe I should just go and buy a big roast and cook it with gravy and feed them that for the next week. Its all so scary.

I live in an apartment across the street from a middle school. Every day the dogs stare out the windows and bark at everyone walking around. They even bark when they hear a rustling outside and neighbors walking in to their apt.

I have tried everything. Rewards for being good, slapping their butt w/my hand and newspapers, and even a stern "NO" doesn't work.

I want a new pet, a small animal to be specific. I have been looking at different ones, and doing some research but I seem to be getting no where.

I can not have rabbits due to allergies. I would also prefer to not have a hamster.

I want something that can live in a cage, and likes attention but doesn't need hours of attention a day.

I live in West Virginia, we have all four seasons and my house is usually about 75 degrees. It doesn't matter if it sleeps at night, or during the day.

I don't want to be paying more than $75 for an animal and I need something I can find in my area. I don't want anything too exotic so I can be sure my Vet has dealt with this animal before.

I was thinking about Chinchillas, Ferrets, Rats, and other animals similar to this.

I have some smoked chicken and I don't want to just throw out the skin just to have the animals go through the trash to get it, so I thought I could feed some if not all of the skin to them. I know not to give them the bones, so please no comments about that thank you all who answer

I will be getting a horse aug. but I am looking at some really good saddles for cheaper prices and I'm afraid that they wont be there in a few months, can I buy a saddle before hand and fit it to my horse some way? I ride english and i was also wondering if I have a regular square cut saddle pad should I put a cushion or something underneath or can I just leave it with the one saddle pad? thanx!

my gerbil is FAT. He won't run on his wheel at all. instead, he covers the bottom with shavings so it won't move when he walks across it. I've also tried an excerise ball... no good... he panics and really hates it. All he does in there is poop a bunch and try to scratch his way out. What can I do to make him use his wheel? It's the right sized wheel for him and has a solid floor so his legs & tail won't get stuck... so what's the problem?
