The other day at the vet clinic I work at, two women got out of their two different cars at the same time. One had a dog, one had a cat in a pet carrier. The woman with the cat took the cat out of the pet carrier outside of the clinic (smart, huh?). The cat got scared that the dog was there and took off up a tree. It was about 25 up in the tree when the firefighters got there. They decided to hose the cat with their fire hose while the owner watched. I guess they figured when the cat fell down out of the tree terrified and soaking wet, it would run into their arms out of gratitude. Well, it didn't. It took off into the field behind the clinic and noone has seen it since. The woman threatened to sue the clinic and the woman with the dog - which will lead to nowhere.
Are they supposed to get cats down like that now? Is that the newfangled thing to do? I just don't understand why they did that. Does anyone have any ideas about why?

At least Tackleberry from the movie Police Academy wasn't there.... A well placed shot would have got him out of the tree and kept him from runnin away,, after all, They WERE at the vets.

That is actually a very inhumane way to get a cat out of the tree and they firefighters could have to pay a hefty fine! The cat was obviously already scared to death and spraying it with a hose (which puts out tremendous amounts of water at highspeeds) would not help! Not to mention falling 25 feet out of a tree can no doubt harm a cat and hopefully the poor thing isn't suffereing from starvation and a few broken woods, and a possible punctured lung off in the fields.
I don't think the lady should sue the clinic as it's not their fault, it's just their tree, but if the vet saw he should have intervened, however he probably went back inside to take care of other patients assumign the firefighters would do a good job.... She should definately talk to the city about the methods their firefighters are using though. A cherry picker, some gloves and maybe a tranquilizer would have worked like a charm, instead they had to harm a cat and cause someone to loose their pet. Shame on them for being lazy and taking the easy way out. But also, shame on the lady for not doing something about her cat if she knew what they were doing was dangerous and then complaining about it later...! People these days!

i would not have stood around like an idiot and let my cat be abused and actually just a few months ago my friends cat was resistant to coming down from a tree.... after hours of coaxing, calling, waving treats in the air, and bringing out his favorite toys, he just scratched his way down along the tree trunk and the firefighters used no hose. really, imagine that powerful water being sprayed on a tiny cat, that's like hosing down a 2 year old, especially now that the poor thing is wandering out somewhere and will most likely mistrust humans for quite some time....

That's a tough one. The woman was stupid to let the cat out and because she did she doesn't have a leg to stand on as far as suing anybody. The fire department is there to put out fires not save idiots cats when they let them out of their carriers.Should they risk their lives climbing trees for some moron's pet? I don't think so! I don't have a problem with it even though I AM a cat lover. The woman is too stupid to own a pet.

In the town that I live in,you would be a fool for calling the Fire Department. They would laugh in your face.
Common sense will tell you that, that cat will come down when it gets hungry.
We had a lady,a few weeks ago call because a cat was on top of the building across the road from her business. The FD went out,but were cursed out for being on the roof of this building. The owner threatened to sue if her roof leaked, the next time it rained.

Umm i dont think so, the one way they could of solved this is by using a tranquilizer to seduce the cat and climbing up the tree to get it down b4 it fell out! the women cant sue because its not the fault of the clinic that her cat went up the building. it was her fault cuz she shouldnt have let her cat out of carrier knowing their was a dog there.
