He comes every 6 weeks, always very pleasant.

My 20 year-old cat passed away about six weeks ago. I intended to get another one after the holidays. I can honestly say I like dogs and cats the same but for different reasons. I've never had a dog before and there's nothing like the company of a nice cannine. The issue is I live alone. My schedule would permit me to take care of him (What's a good breed for chauvanists?) mostly by myself. I can afford to pay for a dog walker and occasional boarding. But I believe that a dog needs to have an extended family. I can't provide that. They're social creatures. Usually when I socialize I go out. I'm concerned that I couldn't fully provide for the dog's emotional needs. I'm also concerned that having to do all that extra work would diminish the pleasure of having him.
(Yes, I said HIM!) If you have a cat that gets lonely you can always get her (Yes, HER!) a buddy and it's very little extra work.
Whadaya think? P.S. I love Shih-Tzus. Feel free to e-mail me any doggie pics.

I live in the country and have my own 2 dogs, chickens and ducks.
Each animal has it's place and it's own personaility and I love and care for each and everyone of them.
Now,I get up one morning to find a chicken missing and find that a cat has taken up home under my storage shed.
I let things go and before long I am down 2 more chickens so eventually I trap the cat and shoot it. . .chickens don't come up missing anymore(my prettiest hen is now gone).
Why do people dump these unwanted animals out in the country thinking us who live in the country just want or need them?
I understand that most people think that having a dog pound put these animals to sleep is cruel but what about dumped off animals who can get hit by cars who don't die right off and suffer or what about those animals who starve because they don't know how to find their own food.
I am tired of buying chickens and ducks and getting attacted to them only to lose them to a stray animal.
Get your pets neutered! !

I have the cutest cat in the world. She is just a mixed breed, but looks kind of like a burmese. She has the round apple face, with GIANT green eyes, and she is very petite. She is absolutely so sweet, she is lying in my lap right now. She will follow me around the house, just so i am in her sight. She also sleeps with me. AND she loves to be hugged. I don't know TOO many cats that love to be hugged. She is my favorite animal in the world, she has a special place in my heart, and will forever.
Do you have, or have you had an animal that held a special place in your heart?

My reasoning behind even thinking this question is this;
If you neuter your cat to prevent spraying, but still want the option open to producing a successor to his line of being absolutely wonderful, is there anything you can do or anywhere you can go to have sperm frozen for later use, maybe even after he's died? *obviously you'd have to do this before you have his balls chopped off*
And as for females you want spayed to avoid oops pups/kits and bloody messes but it's the same thought as the male, you may in the future want some cat/dog to carry on her memory.
Everyone is saying that you should "fix" your pet if you do not want to breed them, and seeing as with most there's no justifying leaving an animal intact to some of you, I want to know if there are other options availible.

Different animals react differently to the same test. What is safe on animals is not necessarily safe on humans. Is it ok to test on animals? Isn't it arrogant of humans to think that they can just go and mutilate animals?

There are birds and hedgehogs and mice and rats everywhere, and their lifespans are on the short side - why don't we see any lying around? According to my calculations, there should be heaps of dead doves in any larger, European city. But I've never seen one.
Do you know what happens?
