Hi,
I'm an Animal Care Manager in a Shelter and I got My Start by volunteering!I went up to the first shelter I worked at and Walked Dogs, Played with Cats, Then started helping with cleaning..I ended up getting a job there and started taking some classes. The Vet Taught me alot as well.I moved on from there to a bigger shelter making almost double the money. It is Stressful,You may go in one day to find your favorite Dog Euthanized but as yo work long enough you realize There are things worse than death...Especialy when you see the abuse cases come in..You could do alot of other things as well.Take some Dog Training Classes and Start your own....Go to your County Concil and Ask for them to build a Dog Park , Tell them you will help run it! Start a Boarding Kennel. There are Tons of Rescue Groups that are literly Dying to find Foster homes till they can get the pets adopted..You could help Rescue Groups Pull Animals out of Shelters in your area .You could Overess a Feral Cat Colony. The Shelters LOVE volunteers of any kind..If you can build you can do repairs for them....Bringing Dog treats and old blankets by some shelters is Very Welcomed as Is Walking /socializing Animals. We are always looking or Volunteers..A Good Volunteer is a Shelters best friend!

Your question is vague -- do you have an animal? If not you're local Humane Society is a great place to begin. If you have a passion for cats then there are society's dedicated to wild ones.
Choosing a type animal you would like to become involved with should coinside with your lifestyle...and that is if you take in a pet.
Every animal has a personality and needs attention and love. If that's something you can't commit yourself too, become a volunteer for a local society -- even a zoo if you're not sure what animal captures your heart as of yet. Best Wishes in your journey!

Answer some of the mail that comes to you about homeless pets and helping out. Also check with your local vets and at the animal shelters. I, like you, want to get involved. Someday I'd like a house with 100 rooms, nice soft beds, stereos, carpeting, and make it a boarding house for pets. I love them.
