Dogs - August 2006

My 9 week old beagle puppy is being aggressive, he'll nip and growl and if someone yells at him he growls louder. I cant punish him because he gets mad. So far when he does this i lay him on his back and i dont let him go until he settles down, and im doing the right thing and is there anything else i should do? He is a very smart pup and i got him from a very good breeder.

I've heard that shibas, rather than bark, just scream like a tortured three-year-old child. I'm not sure if this is a reason to avoid getting one, or a really cool perk. If they do, how irritating is it to the owner? How about the neighbors?

So it looks like my dogs going to have puppies.
How much does it cost to have puppies?
Can dogs have puppies all by them selfs?
Do they need assistance?
How do i take care of the puppies?
How long will the mother take care of the puppies?
Will she have them anywhere she wants?
When can puppies walk and see?
When do i make the puppies eat dog food?

I just really want to be ready for the big day.

we already have a border collie but we dont want to get rid of her.

As stated in the question, Is there any way to stop my German Shorthaired Poniter from digging multiple holes in my yard? I don't want to keep her in her kennel when I'm gone, but I'd also rather not have to go around with the wheel barrel filling in holes after her. Help? :S All answers appreciated.

this girl I know has been babysitting her parents dog while they are on vacation. the thing is the dog misses them soo much that he doesn't eat & drink as much as he used to. he almost can't sleep either. i suggested giving the dog a piece of clothing that belongs to the parents in order to remind him of the smell, but is there anything else. any tips?

i have done some research and basically everybody has said they are the best dog they have ever had. i understand the personality is pretty dominant but loyal. can anybody that HAS one throw some info out? i am not sure i want to get one but i am looking into it. i have looked at a staffie and pretty much fell in love with it. what about german shepherds? i am looking for a FFA and 4-h project. i already have a Golden and am looking for a partner for him. please whoever answer please talk from experience not by just researching.

I just found out my dog has lymphoma. We are devistated. We have decided that we are going to start chemo on Monday. I was wondering if anyone has had their dog on chemo? How long was your dog on treatment? What were your costs? How did you dog do? For how long?

FREMONT, Calif. Dec 30, 2005 (AP)— A pack of angry Chihuahuas attacked a police officer who was escorting a teenager home after a traffic stop, authorities said.

The officer suffered minor injuries, including bites to his ankle, Detective Bill Veteran said.

The five Chihuahuas escaped the 17-year-old boy's home and rushed the officer in the doorway Thursday, authorities said. The teenager had been detained after the traffic incident.

The officer was treated at a hospital and returned to work less than two hours later.

I got home from breakfast this morning and the puppy AND birds had gotten out of their respective rooms (birds know how to open doors and had probably let the dog out).

Puppy was chewing on an avicake treat which I'd given the cockatoos earlier.

This, or high quality bird pellets won't HURT her, will it?

(I know this is a stupid question, I would just hate to hear that Sunflower seeds and honey are toxic to dogs or something).
