Well this is simple.. Jack needs to trust you, You can't just go in there and start brushing, you need to take things slow might even take a couple of weeks,

Get some nice flavored toothpaste ( FOR DOGS ) you can't use yours on the dog,, ( YOU CAN BUY THIS AT A LOCAL STORE ) not much money and you need a special toothbrush , sometimes they actually come in a kit toothpaste, toothbrush, and the caps that go on your fingers, If you can't find the caps make sure you warm your hands before proceeding ( hold her nose and message around her teeth and gums and the outside to ) i know this sounds weird ( I do this everyday ) she needs to feel safe then after you do this a couple day start slowly brushing jacks teeth with ( WARM WATER , NOT HOT OR COLD BUT WARM ) good luck and take it nice and slow..

My husband and I have a male Jack Russell terrier and can't imagine approaching the dog with a toothbrush, let alone an electric one! Frankie (the dog) has issues. He hates it when I blow dry my hair in the mornings. The vet would reccomend some sort of chewie that will help with dental hygiene. Also, the vet can do a really good cleaning and check for gingivitis and gum desease. Do you feed her people food? Don't do that! ... cut down on other treats... more exersise with help with her size. Frankie bounces off the walls inside but is a home-body and really doesn't like to go outside much so we play with him with his toys every evening.

It ain't easy kiddo!
suggestions(it's unnatural to the dog, and it scares her)
1. use a doggy toothpaste or anything she likes
2. they make a toothbrush which fits over your finger
3. remember, it's the agitation that cleans not the stuff on the brush
4. ease into it, it may take 2-3 weeks before you can do any real good. and this is doing it EVERY day. ALWAYS follow with a treat.

Put her in your lap and curl a leg over her. This will help control her paws. Take one arm under her neck and hold open her jaw with that hand. Use the other hand to do the brushing. Try to do this after she has been active, so she'll be a little calmer. JR Terrors can be a pain to try to hold down. Good luck!

My vet told me that Milk-bone works great at keeping dogs teeth clean. Also, I have a friend that bought her dog a toy that is bressiled, so when the dog bites down on the toy, it cleans the dogs teeth.

You can buy stuff at Petsmart. My big dog loves having her teeth brushed, but my Shih Tzu hates it. My husband holds her head so she won't bite and I brush her teeth, very very quickly.... You can also pay the $200 to get her sedated and have her teeth scraped.

There are finger tip brushes you can use that are gentle on the gums and peanut butter flavored paste that should do the trick.
