Make sure you always feed it at specific times during the day instead of just leaving a bowl of food out and refilling it when it gets empty. Beagles don't know when to stop eating so if you put out a bowl of food he will eat all of it no matter what. This will help keep your dog from getting too obese and keeping him healthy-best of luck!

The BEST way for the average person is to raise it at someone else's house! Beagles are very cute and sweet with kids, but they are scent hounds bred to live in packs and hunt all day. They are harder than average to housebreak even if you use a crate, and as far as general training - unless you're training them to hunt rabbits, you are very nearly wasting your time. They have powerful tracking instincts which nearly guarantee that they will try to run away every time you open the door. You can get them to sit and do tricks for treats, but you will almost NEVER see a beagle in an obedience competition. They can be incredibly stubborn and they will dig, chew, bark and howl endlessly if left alone.

the perfect way for the known guy or woman is to strengthen it at somebody else's homestead! Beagles are very lovable and candy with young ones, yet they're fragrance hounds bred to stay in packs and hunt all day. they're extra good than hassle-free to housebreak whether you employ a crate, and so a techniques as known education - except you're education them to seek rabbits, you're very almost dropping a while. they have efficient monitoring instincts which just about assure that they are going to attempt to run away every time you open the door. you may get them to take a seat down and do tricks for treats, yet you will especially much never see a beagle in an obedience opposition. they are in a position to be fairly obdurate and that they're going to dig, bite, bark and howl ad infinitum if left on my own.

Get a book. There are many that are just about Beagles, or get a generic dog training book.
"Puppy Preschool"
"Dog Tricks for Dummies"
Are both really good. They offer step-by-step advise and in the back of the Dog Tricks book is a lot of activities to join with your dog.
You can also look into obedience classes. I recomend them for all dogs, it teaches you how to train your dog without driving you both nuts. Petsmart has a really good program. So do most cities, in their Parks and Recreation department.
Good Luck

Start here, reading how to beagle-proof your house:
http://www.geocities.com/brbeagles/newpup.html
And then read more about the breed here:
http://clubs.akc.org/NBC/
Make it a point top know the strengths and weaknesses of the breed that you own.
