don't succumb to his whimpers (when you hold him down or reprimand him) because if you do, he'll know that all he has to do is whimper, and he'll win. make sure he knows that you're the boss; a rolled up newspaper won't hurt him, but the sound of it will make him listen.

A lot of young beagles are mouthy (chewers, biting, etc.), but this puppy is trying to take control here. You need to first of all - make sure he gets LOTS of exercise, then discipline and by that I don't mean punishments, I mean establish rules for him. Give him affection ONLY when he's behaving. Only talk to him when he behaves. If he growls, grab him under the chin, give a little shake and firmly tell him no. Do not yell, lose your cool or hit him. This puppy, though he is very young, needs to learn that you are the pack leader.
Don't let him get away with growling - it'll only escalate. Always be calm assertive with him - don't yell, it will only get him more excited and he needs to calm down a bit.
Good luck - just be patient and most importantly, consistent.

All puppies nip - that' s not a major problem - he'll grow outta it. THe growling COULD be a "play growl" and a nonagreessive attempt to play - OR not. It's just impossible to tell over the internet without seeing his body posture & other clues. You REALLY need a good obedince instructor & puppy kindergarden class or a qualified behavorlist.

He just sounds very playful like most puppies are but it might be a good idea to take him to dog training classes when he gets old enough. This will help him to learn to not nip and growl by the time he gets big enough to might actually hurt or damage somthing or someone.

Yikes! You need to nip that in the bud! Definitely obedience classes, and make sure he knows that you're dominant. I like the laying him on his back thing, it's a really good idea. The only thing I can think of is try using an angry voice less than you hit, maybe he had an abusive puppy-hood, and he's aftraid you will hurt him. But definitely DON'T play ruff with him (tug-of-war, wrestling...)

"I cant punish him because he gets mad."
You're kidding me, right? Who's in control here? You're the one who must establish ground rules and you must enforce them! If you allow your puppy to become an alpha dog over yourself (or any other human), you will have a misbehaved dog that could possibly harm someone someday. Remember, he's a baby. He doesn't know any better. Teach him the difference between acceptable and unacceptable behavior. I'm not suggesting that you become mean or that you hit him, but be assertive. Start now!

Use a rolled up newspaper, or use a hat-that's what my parents used on my beagle. Take him out more, beagles are hunting dogs, they are bred for that, the bigger it gets the worse it's going to get.

i would get 2 water bottles fill one with water and one with vinegar ( make sure the bottles are diffrent colors though because he might get mixed upnot know which one he is being punished 4) when he barks or growls open his mouth and spray the vinegar in his mouth. when he bites or does something wrong then spray water in his face. that usually calms them down

Roll up a news paper and show him right now you are the BOSS! Later on when he is old enough you can have him neutered, unless you are going to stud him out.

sounds to me he's just a playful lil' fellow....if he's misbehaving, use a newspaper....it don't hurt them, maybe their pride, but for some reason a dog is afraid of a rolled up newspaper...give that a try but be consistent...that's one of the most important things...don't let it do things some of the time and then some of the time scold him for the same thing....either let him do it or don't let him do it...but be consistent.... :)
