a lot of the smaller breeds tend to be nippy with kids.. but there are a few that are known to be very good with / love kids, they are= Boston terrier, jack Russell terrier, pug, cairn terrier, papillon, bull terrier, beagle, basset hound, and cavalier king Charles spaniel, the terriers are probably not that good for the apartment though as they are full of energy and need space to run around, unless you give them plenty of exercise.. and no matter what dog you get, it's a good idea to instruct the kids how to treat the dog, ( no pulling, hitting etc...) any dog can take only so much...lol..best wishes for you , your family, and your new family member!

Shih tzus are great apartment dogs. I live in a small apartment and have 2 tzus. They don't shed (they do lose hair just like a person, but not tons of fur like other breeds), they are not yappy, and they have very sturdy bones for a toy dog. And if your children are gentle and know not to treat them like they are a stuffed animal but a living being they will do very well with kids. They do however require lots of grooming if kept in a longer coat or will need to visit a groomer at least 4 times a year if kept in a shorter coat.

Try a Jack Russell terrier. They are very energetic (perfect to wear out your kids), small (about 10lbs), and very intelligent (trainable).

Another dog you might try is a Miniatue Pinscher (Doberman) and they look just like they sound, just like a Doberman that got shrunk down. About the same size as a Jack Russell, they tend to form very tight bond with the family, or even one member of the family. Good if your kid is a latch-key kid, they will always have a friend waiting for them.

Good luck on your search. Remember, it isn't just choosing a dog, it's choosing a new member of you family. And please don't go to a breeder when there are plenty of great dogs sitting in rescues, waiting to go home with you.

The dorm I lived in did not enable pets. it quite is quite helpful to verify that out in the previous you're making plans on taking your dogs to college. Having a Pit and a Rot interior the residing house already make it complicated to point a stable breed for you. you have an excellent style of time now for looking after the dogs, yet as quickly as you're off to varsity, that element would be long gone. A correct experienced dogs isn't vulnerable to do away with on the carpet. i in my view do not think of you're in a postion to get yet another dogs, yet once you may desire to, evaluate: * Norwich Terrier * Australian Terrier * English Toy Spaniel * Yorkshire Terrier *Papillion

Nope, all small dogs are evil.
Not really..; Lhaso apsoes or beagles/ bassets tend to be quite friendly but it's always best to introduce the dog AFTER the child/children.. has to do with the pack mentality and the last one in is at the bottom of the food chain/pack... USUALLY! If the dog tries to climb his way to the top or show agression to small humans, he would need to be trained and, usually, it IS possible to teach him he's the bottom.

Border collie, they're super smart and adapt very well to apartment life. I lived in an apartment in the city with my little b/c for 3 years before we moved back out in the country. As long as I took him out every morning and evening to let him do his business. Then we'd play in the park for an hour every evening so he could unwind. We live on a ranch now and he wants to stay in the house most of the time... Apartment life spoiled him!!!

A miniature dachshund. AKA, a weiner dog, just slightly smaller in size. We had tons of them at one point, and there was no room in our house, but they remained utterly happy. That's their general temperment. Happy, bouncy but not overly hyper dogs. They love to play, and be helded, and just generally spoiled. Which is great if you have kids that are going to be doing just that. You'd need to walk them now and again of course, as every pet needs exercise, but overall I think a small hound dog like that would love a close, loving enviroment.

I would say like a pug. They can play rough with the kids, but also have time to cuddle. They have sturdy bones unlike other toy dogs and they like roughing it out but can adapt to apartment living. Dont get a chihuahua or and italian greyhound because they have very fragile bones.

Maltese dogs love children. those are probably the only dog that will like an apartment it don't really matter how small the dog is. Maltese don't get that big, and the don't shed. but they can get a little yippy if you get a female. but DO NOT GIVE THEM DAIRY PRODUCTS

Our dauchsund does great with kids. He's a standard, so he has the personality of a large dog, but he's still pretty small. He's pretty lazy too, so he doesn't mind us not having a yard. I just take him to the doggy park occasionally to throw his toy around, but even then, he'd rather just snuggle in my lap on the couch.
