I have heard that giving raw hide to your dog is dangerous. Is this true? I give my dog one every week.

We are dogsitting for my brother who is on holiday. Skally(the dog) has a habit of chewing her front paws like we bite out nails!! She doesnt break the skin though, and it seriously looks like she is trying to bite her nails! A visit to the vet was inconclusive; sometimes this can be a symptom of anal irritation(!), but she has had the all clear regarding that. What could be the cause of it??Its very strange, and she does it mostly at night, and its quite loud as well!

I'm thinking of raising dogs for profit. I have tons of room in the country, and will need to build facilities, but would like to design something that doesn't look or feel like a kennel / cage / prison. Something with common grounds where they can run and be a dog. With a separate whelping area, and separate areas to put dogs when they're aggressive. Am I being naive? Would anything like this work? If not, why not? Any legitimate ideas and comments would be welcome.

Hi,
I found a datson/spanial mix. She is precious. She was outside along a road w/ other big dogs. She had fleas, ticks, etc. We took her in, cleaned her up etc. We love her! We can't potty break her though. I have other dogs inside that go out use the bathroom, do great. This one, she goes outside wants to play w/ the dogs outside , then comes in and usese the bathroom. What can I do? She will even poop/pi on book bags etc. She gets the urge and their she goes. No hints either. You just see it/ smell etc. Help! I have 8 dogs. I've not ever had this kind of trouble potty training.
Thanks!
Patti & Gidget ( the dog) :)

Some dog foods have meat products as first ingredient and I have been told that is a good thing. I have seen some listed with 23% crude protein and wonder how much is digestible. But somewhere along the line I have gotten the idea that too much protein damages the kidneys. Do you think 23% crude protein is adequate or too much?

My dog, Butler, is going through a paralysis. We are not sure if it is temporary or long term. I took him to the vet with a paralyzed paw and it spread throughout his entire body. One week later he is scooting around and pulling up on his back legs. I would appreciate any ideas that would make it easier but one that is extremely important is going potty. He is going potty once a day and is poing once every 3 days. Anything would be helpful in my quest to get him back to his old self. Thank you. Lisa

I have to crate my dog and he has never been in a cage. My friend told me her dog bent the wire on the cage and was bleeding. Is this common? I really don't want to crate him. But I am moving in with a roommate and I don't want to risk damage to her house. He isn't bad he just does a little nuts when he thinks I am not coming back, which I always do. I was thinking of getting a really big cage so he has alot of room and put him somewhere he can see outside and a t.v. I live him home know at my own place and he just sits on my bed watches t.v and out the window do you think this will help?
