It was last November that he had his shots..The vet when I talked to them said that it was not normal for a dog to have diarrea.

Diarrhea can present in a stage of forms, some not the same as we expect from our experience as humans.

When a dog gets diarrhea it really pours out of them, is smelly and quite repulsive.

If your dogs poop is not smelly then do not be alarmed, it is probably something he ate and will get over it.

I am pretty sure I read that the shots were last Nov. if so, it has no relation to that whatsoever, too much time has elapsed.

Can you take your dogs temperature, if so, try to get a reading, it should be 38.5c.
Are there any other symptoms, like vomiting, lack of appetence, lethargy etc? There can be many reasons for diarrhea, anything deadly would show other symptoms.
Poisoning would show frothing at the mouth, collapse etc.

Take away all food, just give plain water, keep your dog warm and feeling secure till you can reach your vet.

If you would like to research more, go to the link below, there are many listings of infectious diseases, parasite bites etc. that can cause illnesses in dogs.

Has he eaten anything he wouldn't normally eat? Change of food or tablescraps, something out of the bin? Chocolate? Does he normally have biscuits but he had canned as a treat?

Is he wormed? Is he treated regularly for fleas and if not, does he have regular tapeworm treatment?

There are some parasites and protozoa that can cause diarrhea.

The vaccinations aren't foolproof, each time your dog comes in contact with the virus, the protection of the shots is worn down. In areas with high incidence of certain viruses, it's still possible for them to get it even if they've been vaccinated, usually it's a milder dose though.

My toy poodle had diarrhea a month or so ago. The vet checked him and said he had a bacterial infection in his intestines. Not sure how he got it. Vet said he could have eaten something he wasn't supposed to, maybe a dead frog or lizard from the back yard.

He was given pro-pectalin and antibiotics for 5 days. No food for first 24 hours, just water. He was back to normal on the second day. Eating well, and normal poops.

My vet says viral infections in dogs don't show up for 7-10 days after contact. If your dog has been in contact with another dog in the past week, there's a chance.

its probably something that he ate. You should feed him only on bland food eg. boiled rice and chicken for a few days. Lots of water also. Your vet may also give him an injection and an oral product to settle it down.

how long ago did he have his shots? if recently, then it could be from the vaccines, if not, it could be something that he ate that has upset his tummy, my dog had this happen not long ago, so they put him on medicine and he had to go on a bland diet, also, if you've recently switch brands of dog food, that could do it...

It's probably just a reaction from the shots. Have a nice day! :)

Did you change his food? Did he eat something he shouldn't have or that he doesn't normally eat?

Give him some a spoonful of canned pumpkin.
