I'm adopting a chihuahua soon and I go to school for 6-7 hours/day. I don't want her to be crammed up in a crate for that long (She will be out with me the rest of the time and likely sleep in my bed). So I figured I would get a baby playard/playpen type thing and put her food and water bowls, a bed/blanket, and her litter pan or puppy pads in it. Would that be okay? Hopefully she would also not mind going potty outside the rest of the time, but if she will only go there, I'll let her use the puppy pads/litter box exclusively.

Also, would you recommend litter training or puppy pads? If litter training, what litter? I've heard the dog litter that they sell at PetSmart is uncomfortable for tiny dogs, but I've heard cat litter can be toxic....

Help!

my dog is only just one and has badly strained back teeth. they are brown despite the fact that i have brushed them with dog toothpase everyday since she first had them. i feed her IAMS dried food and am wondering if it is the dye in the food which is staining them. it cant be plaque . i havent caused it by 'over' brushing have i? they are not decaying, just discoloured. should i carry on brushing them?

There is a woman up my street who apparantly rescues dogs and has been to New Orleans for this cause also. This is a wonderful thing she is doing, but something bothers me about her.
Her car(a very small jeep) is always parked in the driveway in front of the 4-plex she just moved into a couple months ago. I've seen 2 or more dogs stuck in the back of this tiny jeep with little air on really hot days on a constant basis. I know for a fact the owner/landlord did NOT want dogs in the building, so this may be one reason. Still I can't help thinking that she should NOT be living there with all these dogs if she can't provide necessary housing for them. To my mind she is abusing her dogs! What do you think?

One is a Shih Tzu (I think) and the other is a Welsh Corgi (I think) and they don't seem to like each other at all. They don't play even though I've tried to get them to. They've growled at each other in the past and I don't think they would give a rats butt if one of them dissapeared. What is wrong with them?? I thought dogs were social animals.

i had noticed something on my dog like his ear was wet but it wasn't. it was sticky & then i seen his tail also was sticky.. i tried to figure out how it got on him. then i seen a bottle of honey half full next to my coffee jar. i just knew it was my live in boyfriend who did this.. i questioned him but he denied he did that.. i just wanted to pour the rest on him but i held back..i was so upset that he would do such a cruel thing to my dog. then he lied about the whole thing...i never mentioned it anymore. but i can't forget

The way I look at it, is that any good, reputable breeder shouldn't have to "sell" their puppies over the net. If the people on the website aren't puppy mills, then they are for sure backyard breeders.

The following are Ingrid Newkirk's own words:
"People have no idea that at many animal shelters across the country, any "pit bull" who comes through the front door goes out the back door -- in a body bag...This news shocks and outrages the compassionate dog-lover. ..Here's another shocker: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the very people who are trying to get you to denounce the killing of chickens for the table, foxes for fur, or frogs for dissection, supports the pit bull policy..."
Those who argue against the euthanasia policy for pit bull dogs are naive.
I have scars on my leg and arm from my own encounter with a pit. Many are loving and will kiss on sight, but many are unpredictable.
People who genuinely care about dogs won't be affected by a ban on pits. They can go to the shelter and save one of the countless other breeds and lovable mutts sitting on death row through no fault of their own.
We can only stop killing pits if we stop creating new ones
