The following are Ingrid Newkirk's own words:
"People have no idea that at many animal shelters across the country, any "pit bull" who comes through the front door goes out the back door -- in a body bag...This news shocks and outrages the compassionate dog-lover. ..Here's another shocker: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the very people who are trying to get you to denounce the killing of chickens for the table, foxes for fur, or frogs for dissection, supports the pit bull policy..."
Those who argue against the euthanasia policy for pit bull dogs are naive.
I have scars on my leg and arm from my own encounter with a pit. Many are loving and will kiss on sight, but many are unpredictable.
People who genuinely care about dogs won't be affected by a ban on pits. They can go to the shelter and save one of the countless other breeds and lovable mutts sitting on death row through no fault of their own.
We can only stop killing pits if we stop creating new ones

This is the founder of PETA. Nearly 95% of pit bulls going into thier shelters are killed.

these dogs get a bad rap. I've hear more stupid myths about this breed than i have ANY other one. every dog breed can and HAS been aggressive....you just don't open you Sunday morning paper and read about the Labrador or poodle that bit someone badly...but ohhhhh roll out the criticism red carpet for pit bites!

read these sites and re-educate yourself on what a pit bull is suppose to be!!!!!

have i ever been bit or attacked by a dog? YES. what kind was it? a BLACK LAB! how many other ppl did that dog bite before he bit me...5!!!!! NEVER would a pit be allowed to do that 5 times without the media all over it. so is everyone bias! yeah i think so.

peta will do nothing for anyone unless it fits their agenda, which is to free all animals. They believe we should not be allowed to own ANY animals or livestock. Yet they have killed more animals than any kill shelter. They ARE A KILL SHELTER! And most animals do not even make it there, they are killed in the back of vans and dumped!

peta makes me sick and they are going down ever since people found out their dirty little secret.

I happen to like all dogs, and I do not believe a breed should be killed because of their reputation..

However,I also do not feel we need to breed them anymore. Yep I the breeding activist said that. They are the number ONE dog "breed" for fatal attacks on humans and other animals. This alone tells me that most are dangerous. Along with a couple of other breeds..

So what needs to be done? Leave breeding these dogs up to responsible breeders who have the background of each and every dog they breed.. No more people with a couple of dogs they are breeding (BYB to some). But this will never happen.

People will continue to breed inferior dogs and you will continue to see idiots training them to fight. These dogs were bred for aggression, so how do you breed OUT the aggression? You can't.

Yes ANY dog can bite, but very rarely is that bite fatal or tears up a childs face and does the damage pitbull can.. This is not even a registerd breed, so how can it be governed properly?

I go to the shelter and they are FULL of pits, more than any other dog. Most are extremely mean, some are not and those are adopted out to responsible people only. They had quit adopting them out for awhile and put them down because people would come get a new fighting dog at the shelter.

They cannot do home checks on these folks, they do not have the staff for this.

The guy at my feed store has a beautiful sweet pit, she is a doll.. And I can kiss her right now the nose, I do not fear her. But I would never do that to one I didn't know the owner REALLY well. And it doesn't mean that one day she might decide to take a chunk out of me.

Not to long ago I saw on the news a woman who had a pit, calm, wonderful dog, and she gave him a kiss one day and he bit her in the face and then acted like nothing happend. She put him to sleep.. And I say that was smart!

I am a bit breeder and I also fight to have them kept safe...now how are you supposed to have any of them if all they do is kill them? If they killed mine I would kill there children for the fact that to me they are the same...there are millions of children in need of homes and all people do is have kids and when the kid gets out of control they send it away to a foster home and it has been proven thet children who grow up in foster care or other sorts of care become 10 times likely to end up in the prison system. To me that is the same as a dog being sent to a pound.I have worked with dogs and have had my breeding license for over 15 years...I am also a vet tech that helps save animals on a daily basis...I can say that I "genuinely care about dogs " as well as other animals. How would people like it if they up and disided that all black haired woman should be put down? Or people that are not full breeds...you know they used to do that...it was called the hollacost...So even if they do or dont pass the laws to keep pits...i will still have a ranch full of them.Oh, one more thing...you do know that pits are the best gard dogs for children and women?and they only hurt people if they are driven to do so (they know by the way you smell or look at the if they will or wont like you) ....they also will do so if they are raised in a bad invironment.None of my many pits have ever turned and they are so well behaved that you could tie raw meat to a rat and let it loose in there yard and unless told they can eat it they wont budge...then after I tell command them to eat the meat, the rat is never harmed.I think people need to stop worrying about the dog and worry about the types of people raising the dogs...they should be punished for making bad dogs...dont punish the dog for doing as it learned...

The problem is not the Pitt Bulls, it is their owners that train them to fight. I know several people that have very well behaved pitt bulls. Yes, breeding of pitt bulls for fighting should be stopped. However I question whether these innocent animals should be killed merely for the implications many make about their genetics.

Yes you can go to the shelter and adopt another dog, but if PETA has their way you won't do that all. They don't want you to have pets at all. They are for complete animal liberation. I guess in this case liberation means death.

PETA's real agenda is to "free" all animals from human interference. That means no humans have pets, no humans eat animals. PETA members have "freed" dogs from their crates at dog shows (because Pomeranians were born to live in the wild?) and poisoned dogs in back yards (because they believe that death is better than the 'slavery' that is a pet's life).

There is a huge gap in the spectrum between torturing baby bunnies for a better hairspray (bad, imo) and loving and sharing your life with a cat or dog (good, imo). PETA has a radical agenda. Pay attention. Do your research. Ask hard questions and decide for yourself where the 'animal exploitation' line lies.

I fully agree with the pit policy! A baby was hurt in Santa Monica yesterday or today and nearly killed. It attacked her face and she will need many surgeries to TRY to fix her back. Pits suck when they arent trained properly. These dogs are VERY unpredictable and even when trained properly can turn on their owner and others. I have a husky and she is the sweetest dog in the world. However, if she ever attacked anyone, she'd be put down immediately. It would break my heart but people are just alot more important than a dog. Period.

I know. My shelter is one of the few in our area that don't euth the pit bulls as they walk thru the door.
People aren't adopting, they are buying, breeding, etc.
and it's not the pit bulls, it's the ignorant people who fight them as well as the ignorant people who believe the media.
