Science Diet is the best there is and this is because you don't have to add any vitamin supplement as it has all that they need. Stick with what you are doing. It is the best for your baby!

Check out this web site
www.spoiled-rotten-pets.com
They have an area where you can rate how good the dog food you use is. You will have to read the ingredients offt he label on the bag of food.
I think you will be suprised at how Science Diet rates.
They have some of the best dogs food available today and many can be ordered over the web or purchased in your local areas.
You will find Science Diet is not on the list.
Any dog food that the first ingredient is ground yellow corn or aome type of a meat by product is not all that great of a dog food.
Fresh chicken or lamb should be the first ingredient.
The food I feed has no corn or wheat or soy in it and NO by products in it all. Fresh never frozen meat is best.

I've worked in many kennels and for several vets so I've seen dogs eating a wide variety of foods. Science diet is great if your dog has a specific medical problem - they have a lot of specialized foods. Most people can't afford their prices and I've never liked the way a dog's stool looked when they ate it.
Look for a food that does NOT have "by products" in the ingredients list or you'll be paying a lot of money for garbage. Personally, I like Nutro - it has no by products and is reasonably priced and my dogs have done fine on it for more than 10 years. They make canned and dry dog foods for puppies and adults. Any changes in diet should be made slowly to avoid diarrhea - gradually mix more new food in with what you've been using until he's switched over.

I feed my Babies on Solid Gold, and have fed Canidae which is a very good Dog Food and do not have to feed supplements. Science Diet, you should be feeding Supplement Vitamins and Minerals.
My vet told me that Science Diet is a fairly good food, but must feed Supplements.

Science Diet is not considered a high quality food. Check Whole Dog Journal - it is highly regarded by canine professionals and has an annual list each year of the best foods. Basically you should give your dogs whole foods - not by-products, additives, sugars. They can eat "human" food such as chicken, turkey, duck, lamb, veggies such as green beans, zucchini, carrots, peas; fruits such as watermelon, apples, tomatoes, avocado, bananas, plums; staches such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, rice, pasta. Do NOT feed any chocolate, macadamia nuts, onions, grapes or raisins. Some of the healthy dog foods that are recommended are Solid Gold, Chicken Soup for the Dogs Soul, Merrick, AvoDerm, California Natural.

I feed Science Diet dry kibble mixed with Pedigree canned food. Sometimes I've bought other varieties of canned food but I always stay with the Science Diet dry. (Makes less clean-up in the backyard!)
Someone once said that Purina One is the same as Science Diet but when I fed that, the boys had an allergic reaction to something in it -- they both chewed their paws raw and bloody.

Never, Never Never would i feed my dogs the science diet or Iams. These are not good dogfoods, but in my opinion i do not trust any dogfood for my dogs. I feed the raw all natural diet. My dad had a sheltie die as a result of contaminated dogfood, and the company did not catch the contamination until peoples pets started dying from it. It caused liver and kidney failure.

Everyone has their own opinions about dog foods. You will find that the dogs worry much less about it than their owners do. Best advice is do your own research and decide for yourself. The only opinion I have is that many on here want to make a mountain out of a molehill. You will find that most who say a food is no good have never picked up a bag of it and read the lable, they only read somewhere (probablly on YA) that it is no good. $5 says that there isn't one of those that said SD is no good that can tell you how many different formulas of SD there are, so forget about them being able to tell you what the formulas are.

My opinion on dog food is...IF you can buy it at Walmart...you might want to re-evaluate! If you really look at what is in the food you will find that Science Diet is merely "high quality CRAP" They are not avail here, but I have heard good things about Solid Gold, Inova, Nutro, & Canidea!

Science Diet is NASTY for you dogs...the only reason that vets hipe the stuff is cause they get 1. free dog food 2. promotional funding 3. advertising
look on the back of your dog food ingredient list. does it list a meat first? such as Chicken MEAL ( not just the word chicken..that could mean byproducts, even diseased tissue).
if it lists Chicken MEAL, Lamb MEAL, Beef MEAL, Pork MEAL...ect...then its a GOOD quality food that uses choice meats.
if it lists just the word Chicken, lamb, beef, pork...like a stated above it could be by-products (such as hair, feathers, skin...etc) or even diseased tissue.
the WORST kind of foods list corn meal/syrup, or list a wheat product as the first ingredient. that's like giving your dog a huge helping of CANDY everyday. of course you dog likes it! it tastes wonderful on purpose! because the dog food industry knows that if YOU think your dogs like the food, it must be good, and you'll buy MORE!
we use Nutro Max...they use REAL meat, not by-products or corn meal. and vets don't hipe the stuff because they aren't in it for the advertising or the money..they make GOOD quality food!
check out this link..and learn a bit about it.
you wouldn't put diseased food in your child's mouth. why on EARTH would you do that to you dog???

We use Science Diet too, and believe it to be the best. We do occasionally make something homemade for them like oatmeal, rice, or cream of wheat with meats and veggies, eggs, or stuff like that, just for a treat.
