Well, I think that if he is in definate pain and suffering, then the kindest thing would be euthanasia, even though that is something hard to accept.
Don't let the dog suffer because you cant let go....
Only your vet can give you the best advice.

10 is not old for a dog, especially a toy breed. An enlarged heart, they really cannot do anything for it. The best thing for you to do is make him as comfortable as possible.

He cannot breath because his heart is giving out, I am sorry but he is dying. This is als extremely uncomfortable for him, even painful at times..

But a soft bed on the floor next to your bed, where you can touch him and reassue him. Or you can even lay down there with him and just gently stroke him.

I have to say,, that is this was my dog suffering so much I would have him put to sleep. It is very hard to do, but you can sit with and hold him as they do it and you will see how peaceful it is to pass this way, with no pain.

I am sorry you are going through this, it is very painful and hurts our hearts to watch them dying. If you decide to let him go on his own, just make him comfortable, keep things very calm for him as well.

My cocker was in so much pain I could not allow it. She was 15 MONTHS old and her liver quit working, there was no way to save her. We held her as they gave her the shot and she quietly passed away in my arms.. I will never forget it! But I knew I was doing the right thing.

Sweety,It sounds like your pet is in pain and not able to breathe in a normal way,This takes alot of life out of your pet..He's not sleeping with you or snuggle because he is just to tier and wore-out and can't breathe right and wants to be left along..I really hate to say this,But have you prepared yourself with the most terrible thing to happen, when your pet just can't go on anymore..It really sounds like the little guy is on his lasts leggs..Be strong Sweety..We all have had to fast this terrible thing..I am really sorry..Crying now..

No offense but you should put him down so he will have a more peaceful life in heaven.

Keep him as comfy as possible but when he gets too sick, put him to sleep.
