Sacha keeps one eyes half-closed if not completely closed most of the time, and it's a bit runny; he's an eight-month-old cat we just adopted, hasn't been inside any shelter. HELP!

I want a safe and organic way to discourage my 2 kittens from ripping my carpet up and climbing the curtains, and I was told that they hate the smell of lemons. So I put a few drops of lemon essential oil on the carpet, and they smelt it and didn't seem particularly bothered. I don't want to use lemon juice, as this may go 'off' after a while. What else can I use?

Hi,

We recently adopted a kitten via my sister who is a Vet Nurse. This lovely little chap is 9 weeks old or thereaboutrs, was badly starving, and had severe infections and a bad leg / tail. The vets amputated the tail and leg before we got him and sorted the infections, but after a week he is still a complete nervous wreck!
I've adopted abused animals before but after a week they normally show some signs of familiarity, this little one just shakes. He also often has accidents (anywhere but the litter tray) and will sit in it.

I recognise he's traumatised and we're sticking it out with him, but need advice too. He does play / move about at night, but never by day.

We do have another older cat, but he and the kitten just steer clear of each other, which seems OK for the moment- we can work on that later.

Do cats actually understand spoken language or do they learn to associate certain words with certain things? i.e 'dinner' with food being about to be served.

What puzzles me is that my cat seems to greet me 'Hello' when she has not seen me for a while.

What's the best way to keep her warm? I want to build a house for an outdoor cat for the winter. Is it better to give her a big space (2'x4') with some big blankets or a smaller space (2'x2') with big blankets to build up and contain body heat? I'll build it so there is minimal draft coming in and it will be insulated as well.

I am moving home from a house to a flat. My cat is 12 years old and has always had access to a garden and has never been moved before. My flat does not have the facilty to allow him access to a garden and is in a completley new area. Does anybody have any ideas as to the best way to settle him?or would it be best to leave him where he is with my parents?. Thanks for any suggestions.

Why should I have to put up with your cats pooing on my lovely lawn and ripping apart my rubbish bags. What do YOU suggest I do to prevent them? I'm not considering anything nasty, but they really are testing me.

He is 8 weeks old and absolutely gorgeous, but when he plays he scratches - my hands are in shreds!

I'd like to teach him how to play gently but have no idea how.

We have a 6-pk born September 8, 3 are already walking and climbing all over the place. 1 isn't far behind, but 2, (the runts) shake and wobbled so bad that they will knock themselves over.
Also, I have started to notice that mama really only wants to feed the bigger 3, she will actually get up and leave about 1/2 the time the little ones nurse. We have had her 2 years, but this is her 2nd litter this year. Any insight would be appericated.

**no i'm not interested in putting her down** she is 10 years old, has always suffered from asthma (almost like a weird coughing/wheezing). she has been on prednisone and theophylline daily but a year ago was diagnosed with diabetes. the prednisone and insulin don't work well with each other and the vet wants me to switch to an inhaler for her, does anyone have any experience with this? also, with the diabetes, she started at 4 units twice daily but has gradually increased to 7 units twice daily, what is everyone else giving their kitties? what is the average insulin dose?

For example my wifes cat sits on her lap watching tv for hours, when my wife is annoyed by some event the cat is clearly annoyed also! When my wife is amused and laughs at some thing on the tv the cat takes this as a signal to bounce up and down like a pogo stick!!
It certainly cant be following the programme can it??
Is it just mentally deranged? or are other pets like this?

Her front coat is also kind of clumpy. When I hold some of her hair, it comes out. She seems to be fine, eats well, goes to the bathroom fine.

Could it be just the weather change in Sacramento?

I have 6 cats ages from 3-6.My 6 yr. old female has recently begun to attack my very gentle 3 yr. old male by squawling, scratching at,& cornering him. He's the most gentle. When she squawls it sounds like he's killing her but he's only walking by.When she goes into these fits she pees all over the floor. Is there any reason that she would just start doing this after all she's lived with this male since he was a newborn.

My cat had an ear infection a couple weeks ago, so I took her to the vet and got medicine. It cleared up, but this week it reappeared, but now it's blood droplets coming out of her ear mixed with some wax, or gunk. Does anyone know what this could be??

p.s. She's 13 yr.

I once had a male and a female cat. After a few months, the female one gave birth to 4 all-white kittens. I liked them so much that I peeked them all the time. After one week, maybe because of that, the mother stopped letting her kittens to suck breastmilk. Two died but two survived, one of them was the one I was talking about.
