We went to the pet store last night with a small army of five girls (field trip during daughters slumber party). We had promised her a small pet for her birthday. Her first choice was a turtle but they didn't have any. We looked around and decided on a parakeet. They sent an employee over and she began trying to talk us out of the pet. She told us every possible negative thing about owning a bird. This went on until the point of being ridiculous and me getting slightly agitated. She offered no tips on care and actually seemed very upset that we were buying the pet at all! I had told her that we have a dog and two cats and seemed convinced that we wouldn't be capable of keeping the bird alive. I kept telling her that we would try it for a week and if we found that it was too much we would return the bird. She was downright upset in the end and was very rude. She refused to answer questions, quickly caught the bird (then proceeded to drop the box!) and took it to the front of the store.

Shes three months old and I got her from a breeder.

I originally wanted a Conure because the ones at Petsmart that I played with seemed to enjoy the play. But not this one. -.-

She's quiet, she doesnt play with her toys and she's bit me three times hard enough to draw blood.

I feed her twice a day and i've only fed her twice because i've had her for a day. When I feed her I lay down and put her on my belly and cover her with a towel and she calms down enough to feed her. I do the same thing after I bathe her. I wrap her in a towel afterwards and she falls asleep on me because I bathe her at night.

She has her wings clipped.

She bit me once while trying (emphasis on trying) to file her nails, once while trying to take her out of the cage and once while petting her after I put her in the cage.

Shes constantly puffed up and every now and then when I get close she puffs up and starts bobbing her head until I touch her and then all her feathers go down.

HELP! What do I do/not do?

i have a mated pair of cockateils. i have taken out the nest box to give her a rest from laying. however HE is still mounting her and mating. Will she still lay eggs? Should I take them away from each other and I have and man does he scream all day and nite for her. HELP

Two were killed, heads left on, 1 was partially eaten. I checked them at noon, they were all fine, went to close hatch in coop at 9pm and found them. Feathers all over inside of 6 x 9 coop! Other 10 hens are ok. We got snow since 4pm so no tracks visible. Pen is 10 x 16 x 5 ft chain link. No cover in winter. Weasel? Aren't opposums/coons hibernating now?

ers, my husband could sleep with them crawling all over him and he did'nt seem to be bothered, but I could'nt sleep, they were big, you could hear them walking across the floor, the had a big butt, brown and some were black we found in the bathtub, big with long legs, they did'nt have the markings of a wolf spider, people say they were water spiders, I say they were brown recluses, what do you think

we've kept our LBS nest, next to our door so, sometimes in the night around 12pm, 1pm like that they make a very panic noise, they all fly and fall in their house, we couldn't sleep, then we have to get up and put all lights and weight for sometime then we can go to our bed. it is so disturbense, otherwise they are ok, why is it happening like this?

I have a 30 year old parrot that I’m thinking about taking to the United Kingdom (he'd be coming from the USA). I understand there is a 30 day quarantine period, but he’s an older bird I’m not sure he could take being isolated from me for that long. Is there any way to have him quarantined in my home instead of an outside facility?

I have a beautiful female cockatiel. She's at the point where she's coming in heat now. As she had gotten older she developed an odd habbit. Most of the time, after eating a bite, she'll climb from the top of her cage, down to the door. She'll stand on the end of the cage door, and the little latch which latches the door shut (One of those latches that you just push down, and it goes through the bars) and she'll appear to chew on it, but when I sit and watch her; she'll just sit there; and not move. After she does that; I'll see a bit of clear liquid there; like a ball stuck to the latch. What is she doing? She's VERY active, and playful, and eat's very well-- she has a great appetite. What is she doing exactly? Is this normal for a bird that's coming to breeding age?

My African Grey will only eat a few teaspoons of the mixture I give him. At this point he prefers for me to mush fruit and hand feed him that. After he is done eating all he wants to do is lay on me and go to sleep. He makes very strange noises and whistles when hes happy. I just want to make sure I am treating him right

Got an egg on the side of my car parking on the street but just didn't think I have rogue neighbors. Yes, an egg shell was on the street next to the mess but I forgot to see if it has a stamp which could indicate it was bought at the store. It did look like it was thrown from the side instead of vertically dropped (in the case of a bird).

Sometime in the far future (At least a couple years from now, if not more. I'm not sure when the timing would be, sometime after college likely) I want to get a conure, although I'm open to other species. I would be a beginner bird owner, but because I research things to death and I'm patient with animals I believe I could handle a medium-difficulty bird. And what I think I want most in a bird is one that with love to be handled anywhere, and that will snuggle and cuddle a lot and just sit with you for long periods of time.

So, people who've had lots of different kinds of parrots, in your experience which was cuddliest? :)

My parakeet and I are best friends. He is always playing in dirty things though. I try to give him a bath like regular keets are supposed to but he hates it. He is really dirty. I tried running the water and letting him run his head under it but he just screams at the top of his lungs. I also just put a bowl full of water in his cage but he wont sit in it. How do I get this durty budge clean!?!

Help! My parakeet has dried vomit on his face&beak is fluffed up wont chirp; i found him asleep on cage floor!

I walked in and found him asleep on cage floor! he would not chirp when i talked to him, and when i looked at him, he has all sorts of "goo" on his face feathers and stuff encrusted on his beak! ... he seems to have balance problems, also...i dont know what to do! i have had him for 9.5 yrs, and he has been very healthy!!! any advice? please! and only serious answers! i dont have time for BS in this situation!
