Cockatiels are seed eaters and need a proper blend of seeds including sunflower, wheat, rapeseed, and smaller seeds like a budgie mix. Buying a cockatiel mix is your best bet on good nutrition. Save the apple for an occasional treat.
They also like a little bit of greens, which can be grasses (that haven't been sprayed with chemicals) and seed heads from weeds.
A piece of cuttlefish is good so that they can keep their beaks short and in peak condition, and some shell grit or tiny gravel to help them grind up the food in their crops.
And of course plenty of fresh water. Mine even have the occasional bath in it.
For hand training your cockatiel, you need to be very patient and building up trust. Try hand feeding your birds some treat each day. This lets them associate your presence with good things. Gradually move your hand away from them till they will want to step onto your hand to eat. Do not grab at them, they don't like it and will bite. Better to get them to come onto your hand than grabbing them. As they come to trust you, you can try petting them.

1. Seeds need to be there at all times and mix it with pellets. This is the staple food. Vegetables and Fruits are additional "treats".
So Spinach works well with them and Carrots and Broccoli and corn. These 4 things work with my Cockatiel.\
Cockatiel seeds are better but you can get parakeet seeds and they like that too.
2. They are scared right now. So, just talk to them and don't put your hand out. And gain their trust ...feed them and they will like you. Let them out of their cage and say step up when picking them up things like that work.

i don't probably think of any style of chicken is quiet one hundred% of the time. yet once you want 2 birds then i could get 2 now fairly than later. that is perplexing to introduce new birds to a minimum of one yet another. yet cockatiels are solid birds.

you need to google cocatiel foods, and treats. There are a lot of foods they can't have and plants they can't be around. They sell bird treats in the pet stores. I give my cocatiel millet seed, fruit seed and nut balls, nuts, stuff I buy at a bird store, and sometimes I share a piece of bread, some veggies. I don't give my bird anything with sodium or sugar. Never give your birds apple seeds or apricot pits, or anything of that sort. Good luck and enjoy your two new additions.

It will take along time for them to stop nipping at your fingers..They dont trust you yet
Food: They love those seed sprays but I would stick to a traditional prebaged food for them from the pet store. I wouldn't feed them a bunch of fruit because they will get the runs. They make alot of choices but please use the ones mades specifically for cockatiels

Well, there are a few things I can remember that they weren't supposed to eat, including anything with caffine or chocolate. And you may be picking him up incorretly. Really, it's probably better, for now since you just got them, if you just let them come to you for awhile. They need to get to know you first.
