so here's the deal... we adopted a chocolate lab, she's about 2 years old, over the summer. so far she's been very well behaved but i'm a bit nervous about the tree ornaments and lights either getting her sick, or just breaking... i think we'll have an artificial one again this year but i wouldn't mind putting up the usual glass ornaments which i'm sure she'll love to try and get ahold of.... i've been doing research online.. see what i can do cuz the place isn't too big and there's only one room where the tree could go, which would mean the tree and doggie sharing the living room... bit concerned. i keep seeing the Scat Mat suggested but i've never used one so i don't know how effective and harmless it is (AND i'm on a tight budget) soooo if there's anything else that anyone has done successfully i'd love to read and try it out. thank youuu!

One of my friends is coming from out of state for a short visit after Christmas... She'll be bringing her husband, 1 1/2 yr. old son and her two dogs... How do I tell her I really don't want her dogs to stay here? I have a female rotweiller of my own she's 4 yrs. old and she's NOT used to being around other dogs... I treat my dog like a dog and NOT like a child so she has a crate and she's NOTallowed on the furniture... My friend treats her dogs like children they are on the furniture and have the run of the house. While my dog is really great around children she is PROTECTIVE of them around other animals.. I just don't think this is a good idea.. How do I tell my friend I don't want her dogs with her during the visit... ?

My dog is part black lab/ part german shepherd.. she is turning 5 soon..
for years, her coat would naturally shed in the summertime, and grow back in the winter..
now for 2 years straight, she has been losing hair in clots.. it is everywhere!!!
why is this happening??
is she sick? should we call a vet? does anyoen's dog have the same problem?
It is not pleasant when I want to have a big party coming up for relatives and I have black hair all over the place.
ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE??
thanx!!
much appreciated!

I have two Treeing Walker Coonhounds and a beagle, all females, and they get fed plenty of quality dry dog food mixed with real meat and you can tell by looking at them that they are not starving by any means. I keep them in another room when I/we eat and the one cries at the door and they stare at you and cry LOL. Anything drops on the floor they are on it like flies on chit. The beagle is not as bad as the coonhounds and the one coonhound is REALLY food aggressive. No biting or problems like that though.

If I dropped a whole roast beef on the floor they would have it gone in a second.

They are rescues (all three). I wonder if the one who is really food agressive didn't get on her mother's nipple enough and had to fight her way, or was starved.

keeps jumping on my kitchen counters and licking the dishes. I have a 3 week old so sometimes I have plates in the sink or on the counter until I can get around to washing them, we don't have a dishwasher. And even when she has food in her bowl, she will hop her little as$ up there and lick my dishes. How can I stop this? And for Christmas, will there be a problem with her trying to eat the tree?

I know there is a vast difference in enegry level here. I'm not getting the dog now, as I don't feel I have the space for sheep. I'm just trying to get an idea of the amount of shedding. thanks.

I recently got a 5 gallon tank for my betta. The smallest he was ever in was a 2 gallon. I've noticed that in the 5 gallon he just stays at the top all the time. He doesn't really "use" the rest of the water. So I was thinking, is it really that terrible to have your betta in a 1/2 gallon to 2 gallon tank?

Same situation, different question.

We took in what we thought was a stray kitten a few days ago, and when we did, he was sick and swarming with fleas and tapeworms. His nails weren't trimmed and his little face was dirty. It was really gross.

Now a family is claiming that he's their cat. This makes me very angry because if they are the owners they should be ashamed of themselves. If they take me to court, do you think I could prove neglect?

Hi,outside my home are 2 wild kittens with their mother which is very wild. The kittens are about 4 month old and they do hiss wen you come close.About 2 weeks ago I start to let them come in the kitchen where they eat and sleep, while their mother was coming and pull them out from the kitchen.Amazing! The mother is VERY VERY protective.Once she charge at me and I got peaty scared.Anyway I used to feed them from my hand but for the past 2 weeks they disappeared and I start to ask the neighbors about them and by "miracle" they start to come back.Probably some one kept them locked.I think that for as long their mother is around I have no chance to domesticate them if its not to late.It is ok to separate them if the mother is so protective?I love the kittens, their mother loves them too, but I can offer them more(a warm house, plenty of good food, etc.).What to do?To take them when they come eat in the kitchen and keep them locked until they forgot their mother? Also we have to move soon.
