My dog is part black lab/ part german shepherd.. she is turning 5 soon..
for years, her coat would naturally shed in the summertime, and grow back in the winter..
now for 2 years straight, she has been losing hair in clots.. it is everywhere!!!
why is this happening??
is she sick? should we call a vet? does anyoen's dog have the same problem?
It is not pleasant when I want to have a big party coming up for relatives and I have black hair all over the place.
ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE??
thanx!!
much appreciated!
xx

Could be many things best to visit the vet he can tell you why. It may be sick or even just fleas but a vet can tell you.

so this has been going on for two years and yet u have failed to even call a vet. can u say neglect. people like u shouldnt be allowed to own dogs. either call the vet and take it in or find the dog a home where people will take care of it and they wont mind having a little dog hair on their clothes

EDIT: one more thing y didnt u bring this up at ur dog's yearly check up when he gets shots or even when u take ur dog to get its nails clipped (if done by a vet) r u saying that u dont take ur dog to the vet at all. news flash dogs need to go to the vet yearly to have a check up just like a person they also need to get their shots ie rabies, distemper etc... rabies shots r mandatory by law. if u dont get them done u can face some serious fines. so y havent u brought it up at a vet visit. do u not take ur dog to the vet ever.

Is her hair thinning so much that you can see her skin? I would call the vet since she is shedding excessively and this is unusual for her.

Otherwise, make sure she is getting brushed/combed more often.

I have a Norwegian Elkhound that never stops shedding. Never. She's a sweet, loving, beautiful dog, so I don't mind!

Good luck!

ok...
for one... all these people say "Oh oh take her to the vet!!"
u dont really need to.... my moms friend has a border collie german shephard mix Sadie, adn everytime i go over to there house i brush her, adn her hair just falls out like rain lol... huge clumps that blow away in the wind.... constantly...
dogs like that have alot of hair, they have 2 layers, one in the winter should shed to the under layer cause the under layer is fluffy and soft, like felt and keeps them very warm..but its completly normal... my moms friend was worried about Sadie and took her to the vet as well...and she was completely fine, the vet said that some dogs may have allergies and lose hair, and some just loose hair around the clock lol
so nothing to rele get worried over.

See vet. Have thyroid tested. Ask about diet and perhaps a need for a change.
