One of my friends is coming from out of state for a short visit after Christmas... She'll be bringing her husband, 1 1/2 yr. old son and her two dogs... How do I tell her I really don't want her dogs to stay here? I have a female rotweiller of my own she's 4 yrs. old and she's NOT used to being around other dogs... I treat my dog like a dog and NOT like a child so she has a crate and she's NOTallowed on the furniture... My friend treats her dogs like children they are on the furniture and have the run of the house. While my dog is really great around children she is PROTECTIVE of them around other animals.. I just don't think this is a good idea.. How do I tell my friend I don't want her dogs with her during the visit... ?

You just have to tell her nicely that they need to get a hotel or make other arrangements for their dogs since your dog does not do well with other dogs. It's your home and your dog's home and I never understand people who presume it's OK to bring their pets when they visit. It's disruptive to households and their pets, and people should ask and not assume it's OK. You are in the right here - but don't be surprised if you get some flack. People who treat their pets like babies often don't understand.

You say hey friend I really like you and want you to come but could you please leave your dogs home. Explain that you have your own animals and don't
want extras there. I have 4 dogs, I love dogs but wouldn't want anyone that was planning a stay to come with their dogs, you just can never tell how they are going to get along with your animals, I have golden retrievers so you would think they would be ok with anything but they aren't they have their own space and they wouldn't want it invaded by other dogs or animals.

I understand your concerns, my sister has a fat golden retriever and she wont go anywhere without him, he grabs your arm and bites for your attention. I would just tell your friend the situation, exactly what you have told us. If she chooses not to come because of her dogs, it is her loss not yours. You didnt mention if they were big dogs or not but I am going to think that yeah they are. We have chihuahuas and if we go to someones house and we have to bring them, we have a large cage that folds up and fits in the trunk. If we know the situation about maybe not bringing them, we get a relative to watch them, so your friend should respect your decision. Good Luck!!

Tell her you are afraid of the dog's fighting and you don't want her dogs to get injured.

I think she will understand you after you've explained her this problem. She can put them in a shelter for those few days.
