I have 3 adults because that's all my city ordinances will allow.
I keep Italian Greyhounds that are "pack" breeds. They would be very happy with 10 dogs in the house.
I wouldn't because I would then be divorced.
I also foster on occasion.
I work in rescue and Humane Society so all but one of my dogs over the past 10 years have come from these organizations.
I will often keep a dog for up to a year while I train and get back into good health before making a permanent placement.
Basically I have 2 permanent residents and 1 rotating foster.

I currently have two dogs, both neutered males. One is a Chihuahua/Australian Terrier mix, and the other is a Dachshund/Miniature Pinscher/Toy Fox Terrier/Chihuahua/Sheltie mix.
The reason I have two dogs is because I live in a small house at the moment, and I am waiting until I finish moving to add to my pack. After I move, I'll probably end up owning between three and five dogs, knowing me. :)
Your turn. ;) How many dogs do YOU have and why that many?
Good luck!

We have 5. 4 are labs and one is a cocker mix.
It was just the way it worked out. They range in age from 14 (the cocker mix), 9, 5, 4, 2.
3 of the 5 are rescues and started of as fosters that we decided to keep because they worked well in our house.
We will not have a 6th. 5 is enough. The vet bills and the food costs is just at the limit of our budget anyway.

As of yesterday, I have two dogs. I rescued my first Dachshund from being euthanized. I have been looking for another Dachshund, or any compatible dog really, for about three months, since most Dachshunds love the company of other dogs. After going to several shelters, I finally found a great little miniature black/tan longhaired Dachshund yesterday and adopted her! I had my Dachshund with me and they got along so that's now why I have two!

12-14 most of the time. We rescue mostly Siberians from kill shelters, retrain and rehome most of them but I keep 4 of my own. Also a couple of boxers, labs, a beagle, a min pin, a retreiver mix and a charpei mix right now (strays or abandoned being trained for new homes). I love my siberians (hugh challenge) and they were all rescues that had been neglected or abused - they are a difficult breed without the right training-people become frustrated when they aren't what the movies show them to be and dump them in the shelters.

I have 4.
3 Bernese Mtn Dogs... Mother and two pups (10 mos). Mother is a Mobility Assistance Service Dog. One of the pups I am training as a Service Dog. One puppy girl my partner fell in love with and since he paid the bills I let him keep her... he is responsible for training her and I'm responsible for training him how to train her... lol.
1 Samoyed pup- He'll be a year old in 3 weeks. Because I have to have a Samoyed. :o)
FYI- It takes 3 Bernese (including the crazy puppy girl) to wear out one Samoyed.

Unfortunatly, i don't have one. My mum will let me have one but my dad doesn't want 'any animals in the house' but thanks to my mum, i now have a hamster and a rabbit which i spoil rotten!
My mum says I will get a dog, but in a few years. We both agree and think that a Golden Retriever would be the bets breed for us.
While i live with my parents, i will only ever have one dog (if im lucky) but if i live in my own house, i think i will stick to one dog as it will get more affection and attention. but i love the idea of getting two dogs. But heres a tip; if you want two dogs, get one as a puppy and wait until one is maturte and well behaved before getting another as two pups at the same time is double the trouble!
