I know there is a vast difference in enegry level here. I'm not getting the dog now, as I don't feel I have the space for sheep. I'm just trying to get an idea of the amount of shedding. thanks.

I know there will be variations in each breed, but just in general......which breed sheds more?

I don't NEED sheep. I just think that since that is what border collies were bred for that it would be satisfying for them to do some herding.

I don't think size has a whole lot to do with it. I would guess a Labradoodle sheds a lot less than a Pekingese.

I think the shedding level would be about the same. Personally, I think Newf hair is pretty easy to clean up, since it likes to form "tumble-weeds" of hair that float across the floor. I had my sister's Lab for a year, and THAT shed a TON and it was hard to clean up!!!!! I am NOT one for short coated dogs!!!
I would describe Newf shedding as MODERATE in the "off" season, to SEVERE in the "shedding" season.

Start with an animal that weighs 40 to 60 pounds versus an animal that weighs 120 to 200 pounds and see who would win the shedding war.

If you don't want a dog who sheds and you want an intelligent breed, pick a standard poodle. The females are 40 to 50 pounds and the males are upwards of 75 pounds. The best breed in my opinion. .

A Newfoundland sheds more than a Border Collie.

<------------- So much hair I can't tell the difference between Lillie (BC) and Bessie (Newf) or Cubby (FC) but the black cat on basic normal shedding can give them all some compitition!!
