I recently had to cook 315 meatballs for a party. We dumped the grease from these in the weeds behind our shed (on OUR property). The neighbors in an adjoining property have a doberman that has dietary problems- is on $50/bag special dog food. Well... apparently he came over and ate a bunch of the grease and is sick. I feel badly for the dog, but told the lady that she should keep her dog in her own yard. I also suggested invisible fence. I was nice about it- but made my point also. Were we wrong?

For those of you dog owners that live in places that have cold winters or places that are cold all the time, such as New York, Chicago, etc. How do you keep your dogs warm in the winter when you go out for walks? Multiple layers? Is the dog's hair cut or long? I'm from New York, and this is my first dog, and this will be her first winter with me, and I want to make sure she stays warm and comfy during those walks.

My male cat has been alone with me all his life. I volunteer at a cat shelter and have taken one of the kittens home yesterday. I thought it would be temporary but this kitten deserves a home and not to go back to the shelter. My older cat hisses and growles. I am torn now between the two. Did I do wrong by the older cat. He has been my boy for so long and now I find I have to divide my love for 2. I don't know what to do. Help!

I Live in Maryland, and my parent's landlord does now allow pets, i have a pitbull who is 5years old, and is wonderful. My boyfriend and i had to move in with my parents, and cant keep my dog. I have tried to find a good home for him, but he is a male dog who is not fixed and likes to "mount" people. It is only new people, once he knows the person, he calms down. I love him soo much and it breaks my heart, as much bad rep as the pitbull breed gets i am scared that if i take him to the humane society he will be put down. He is great around kids, my nephew(3) and niece(2) can lay on him, take a ball from him, ect. He will not growl if you take his food, he is soo loving. Does anyone know what they will do at the Humane society if he is not adopted and the policy? I need your help please! I apperciate it very much. He would def. pass the temperment test if they conduct one, any advice is great advice at this point. Thank you again! I need to do something fast, but the right thing for him.

We just moved into a new house. I have had my dog for 9 years. He hasn't pee'd on the carpet since he was a puppy. I guess it was the adjustment of moving. We lived on a 3 acres and now we live in a neighborhood. He hasn't done it since. Problem- it smells so bad now. How do I get the smell out. The smell just takes over your nose as soon as you open the door. It is in our closet with our clothes. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just found out about this woman who has a green cheek conure. She is a middle aged woman who is single. So she got a bird thinking it would be a great companion. But, she works most of the day and just doesn't have the time to give her bird attention. So, she decided that it would be best to give the bird away.

I want to rescue that bird so badly, but I'm scared of behavior problems. The bird is 1 year old I beleive. But, anyways, my question is, if a green cheek conure isn't given any attention, will he have behavior problems? Like a biting problem or he just wants to stay in his cage...? help!

Okay I live in a rural city. We have animal control and another rescue here in town besides the one I volunteer for. The other rescue (lets just call them Life) has been here for roughly a year. They only take in owner surrenders and strays and since they started they have: Neglected animals, have had aspca called on them twice, let there dogs get loose and breed with the other dogs on the property, used public donations for personal use, fired all of their “board of directors,” let go all of their volunteers, went bankrupt, said they were going to go out of business….
Here are a few examples of the kind of people they are:
Last year they took money for rabies shots and never gave the shots, they left small and large dogs in the mud during icy weather with no food or water, they take dog food donations from wlmart and still ask for public dog food donations (which if it were not for them it would have been donated to the city shelter or us—we are paying for food out of pocket!)

She also said that the mother has it too. I have saw both parents and the puppies and they look perfectly fine. They all look like normal Chihuahua's. Does anybody know what this means?

I just lost my german shephard a few weeks ago and didn't have the money to find out how. But I did notice some clusters of sores around his bottom jaw and neck and also on his back-side. Not on it but near it. They looked like capsul pills but the size of maybe a pencil lead and were yellowish in color. The clusters weren't in any particular patern nor were the pill looking bumps in any patern just all kinds of ways. I was wandering because I just had another one of my shephards put to sleep last night from what the vet said looked like snake bites. He didn't have any of these sores on him but then he had just died. The first pet we found dead with the sores on him. Couldn't have been dead though no more than 15-24 hours. We always go out and play with them after supper. Do I need to go on a snake hunt? Could my first pet had been bitten also? I have other pets and kids I still worry about.

What are they for? My pup has had her initial shots at her breeder, but I guess I need to take her in for some more. It makes me wonder if they're really necessary. They put all sorts of crap in with people immunizations, I'm sure the animal ones are even less controlled.
Are they just a way for vets to make money off of us on a yearly basis? I don't kennel my pet, I don't fly with her. Why do I need to get them for her?

Honestly, do you think that spaying/neutering your pet changes his/her personality? I know everyone says you SHOULD spay/neuter your dog, but could it be just one of those things "they" feed us into believeing? We don't live in town, have no neighbors....I don't want to change my little dog....I love her the way she is. I would never cut my ovaries out....
