I Live in Maryland, and my parent's landlord does now allow pets, i have a pitbull who is 5years old, and is wonderful. My boyfriend and i had to move in with my parents, and cant keep my dog. I have tried to find a good home for him, but he is a male dog who is not fixed and likes to "mount" people. It is only new people, once he knows the person, he calms down. I love him soo much and it breaks my heart, as much bad rep as the pitbull breed gets i am scared that if i take him to the humane society he will be put down. He is great around kids, my nephew(3) and niece(2) can lay on him, take a ball from him, ect. He will not growl if you take his food, he is soo loving. Does anyone know what they will do at the Humane society if he is not adopted and the policy? I need your help please! I apperciate it very much. He would def. pass the temperment test if they conduct one, any advice is great advice at this point. Thank you again! I need to do something fast, but the right thing for him.

Oh, you poor thing! I have an English bulldog myself, and it would break my heart wide open to have to give him up. Anyway, here's what you need to do: Google "Maryland Pit Bull Rescues" to find any places in your area that specialize in placing pit bulls in good, loving homes. You are right to worry about taking him to an animal shelter, as it is a sad fact that many people have a prejudice against pit bulls, and he would probably end up being put down. However, a pit bull rescue has all the facts about pit bulls and knows that they are not all aggressive monsters like the media portrays them. They are usually non-profit agencies who will feed and care for your dog until they cn get him placed. I got my Manny through a bulldog rescue, and he is the light of my life! If there are no pit bull-specific rescues in your area, look for no-kill shelters, which are animal shelters who never destroy unadopted animals, no matter what. Best of luck to you and your little buddy.

Well, with large breeds some vets recommend waiting until they're full grown (aka 1.5 to 2 years old) before neutering them. This is based on the fact that it can take until they're fullgrown for their growth platlets to close. Neutering them early can lead to a slightly taller dog and possible bone problems when they're older. A lot of dogs are neutered early without a problem though, and it does sometimes prevent them from starting to lift their legs. The dog you know and love is Fido without hormones (6-8 months hormones start), so preventing more hormones shouldn't change him at all. If anything it will keep him a little more goofy :) Just be sure to watch his weight once he hits a year or so, and if he starts getting a little pudgy just feed him a little less or exercise him more.

The Humane Society will keep your dog for so many days (varies) in an attempt to find him a home. They will first neuter your dog. Where I am located, there are "no-kill" shelters that might be able to help you find a home. You might be able to find a rescue for pit bulls. Maybe do a google search for one. I know there are many organizations such as purbred rescues. Good luck. he sounds like a great dog!

I would try to find a home for him on your own, I don't know about humane society's where you live but from what I read most in the states put them down, no matter how nice they are. Here in BC, canada there is a no kill policy on all animals brought in so pitbulls are safe. Try to find a new home for him that's the best you can do.

Have you looked into Pit Bull rescue groups in your area? most breeds have avid fans that are ready, willing and able to foster a pet until a suitable home is found for them. In your circumstances, I would certainly consider this avenue. You might try these sites, www.pitbullrescue.org or www.pbrc.net. There may be more, these are just two that Iwas able to locate in a minute of searching.

In my state, pit bulls taken to the pound are automatically euthanized, even puppies. They do not adopt them out. Try a rescue group. Perhaps having him neutered will make it easier to find him a home. It really should have been done when he was a pup anyway.

Because of the breed and their reputation, I would not go to a shelter or humane society. Pits are wonderful dogs by nature, but their reputation preceeds them and the possibility of the shelter either not accepting him or putting him down is a real threat.
I would look for pit bull rescues in your area, and explain the situation. They should be able to help you out.

Go online an find a breed rescue, unfortunately at a regular shelter you run the risk of having him put down just because of his breed! Go find a pit bull sanctuary
try this one http://www.petloveshack.com/Maryland.html
