I am so sad for you! I am tearing up just thinking about what I would do if my dog had to be put down, and I just don't think I could handle it. She was just a puppy!! I think that, like all grief, you just have to deal with your loss one day at a time. Certainly don't go right out and buy a new dog, though, because you'll end up resenting the new puppy for not being your Hollie, and just looking at the new puppy will break your heart all over again. Take some time to mourn her by looking at pictures, her old toys, etc. Don't be afraid to have a good cry over her. Maybe you could have a memorial service for her, and invite all your friends and loved ones to remember her and maybe say a few words about how she touched your life. I will say a special prayer that there is a dog heaven and that Hollie got there safely.

Hi there, I understand what your going through. My miniature dachshund was diagnosed with IMHA less than a week ago. She is currently still in the hospital with a poor prognosis. She has had one blood transfusion as well as a plasma transfusion. As a result of the IMHA and all of the aggressive treatment she has started to show signs of pancreatitis and acute renal failure. The Dr's haver her in ICU currently and are going to try additional fluid therapies to try and flush out her kidneys. I'm so scared and worried. She is such a big part of the family and we don't want to loose her, but unfortunately the statistics of this condition aren't very good.
I haven't lost my dog yet, but it sure feels like it. I'm not sure how I will be able to get over this either. I wish there was better understandings of IMHA but it's a complicated disease. I'm so sorry for your loss.....

Sorry about your dog. I had to put my 13 yr old boxer to sleep because she had cancer and 6 months ago was when she was put to sleep. I am getting another dog for my son unless he gets potty trained first but having a hard time because he is 4. Its tuff but you know life goes on you and don;t blame yourself for the death of your dog. Its going to take time to grieve and hopefully there's enough love for to get another dog. Its not to replace but to save a life maybe from a shelter.

I haven't had that kind of problem, but I did lose a really young cat recently. We brought him in for grooming and he had a heart attack and died. He was only 11 month old. Turned out he had an enlarged heart and it was a ticking time bomb just waiting to go off.
You will feel better sooner than you think. In the meantime keep yourself busy. Trust me.
Good luck.

I'm sorry. IMHA takes many dogs each year. You will learn to live happyily again but it takes time. Soon the tears will be replaced with smiles the memories of your dog will bring. Her spirit will live forever in your heart.

I do know anything about IMHA, but I wanted to say how sincerely sorry I am to hear about the loss of your dog. Very tragic.
Unfortunately there is no easy way to get past the death of a family member, only time will heal you.

So sorry for your loss. I believe that IMHA is an autoimmune disease like rheumatoid arthritis, and is not curable or preventable, so know that there was nothing you could do to prevent it. Be glad to know that at least you gave your Hollie the best possible life she could have had.
