You need to get rid of the flea eggs in the house and break the hatching cycle.

I just went through a flea infestation in my house. I took a long time to get rid of the fleas.
Fleas can be a nightmare because the larva that they lay can lay dormant for as long as 9 years. Fleas tend to hatch due to vibrations. So, for example, you may think all your fleas are gone than listen to music in your house and suddenly you are infested the next day.
You need to cover all of your track when getting rid of fleas: you must kill the fleas and the larva.
Here are the things that I did that got rid of them:
1) put lights near each outlet in your house and place a small bowl of soaped water below the light. The fleas at night will jump towards the light and drown in the water.
2) Put "frontline plus" in between the dogs shoulder blades. This will poison the fleas that bite the dog and help kill their larva.
3) Go to Home Depot and pick up "Hot Shot No-Mess!" fogger for each of your rooms. This leaves no residue in your house but it does require that you leave your house for around 2 hours.
This combination of things completely killed all of the fleas in our house.

Vacuum EVERY little nok and cranny and every bit of your hose that you can vacuum 2twice a day for a good week
also if you have a vacuum with a bag or canister you can put cut up flea colers and put it in there, and it will kill the fleas as you vacuum
als make sure to dump the canister outside far from your door to your house or where you dog runs or dump it in a plastic bad and tie it tight same goes for a vacuum bad put it in a plastic bag tied tight lack or air and no way out means death for fleas
also get some really good flea drops for you dog to prvent the fleas before they even get on your dog

You are going to have to take all of your animals out of your house and get some flea bombs. It sounds like your house is infested. They will live in the carpet and upholstery. No matter how many baths you give the dog, they will hop back on. I recommend a flea bomb for each floor and then put a dab of of Advantix on the back of the neck of each pet to keep new fleas away.

When you go to bed and the baby is safely asleep and cannot get into the stuff...Take a white shallow plate or bowl (shallow) and put some water in it with some dish soap. You can put white paper under it if you want and cast a lamp over that area (directly over the bowl or plate)...The fleas are attracted to white and when they jump in the water...they can't get out because of the dish soap. It is the safest trap I know of. Be sure to pick it up before the baby is tramping about, though.

Talk to your vet... I would use Advatage on your dog and keep it away from the baby for a day or two... This time of year fleas are bad cause they sense the coming of cooler weather.... your dog is probably picking up the fleas when it goes outside in the grass.

you have to fumigate the whole house. you must take the animals out and bomb the house, every room. You have to put the flea collars on your dogs and cats outside after you give them a bath because the fleas only jump off of them and onto your funiture or even you. put one in ever room and after that wash all you sheets and covers in hot water.

When you have house pets you need to insure that your yard outside and your house inside is sprayed with Pyrethrin.
What I do is put the full dose strong one cup instead of one teaspoon to a gallon of water in a bug sprayer tha can be picked up at any homegarden shop or wallmart.
Open your windows when you spray the house and stay gone for the entire day. When come back home most of the fumes will evaporate, but the risidual will last up to two months.
When you bathe your dog use one teaspoon of pyrethrin to a gallon of water and spray him down good. It won't hurt your dog, but he or she will love the effects when they have no fleas or ticks for weeks on end. The residual is wonderful. I use it on my Redbone Hound dogs. None of them have fleas or ticks.
Now if you have an infestation of fleas in the yard you will need to blast it hard with Lindane. Keep your dog clear from the yard after spraying for one day.
Lindane is a powerful chemical and will kill every crawling insect on that yard including ants.
I can walk outside in my yard bare footed and not get one single ant to crawl on me. There is none. The risidual from lindane is so powerful that weeks after you spray it bugs still die when they come in contact with the sprayed area.
Follow these guides I tell you and your flea problem will vanish before your eyes.
Fleas are born as parasites and they are so tiny you need to have a microscope to see them. An infestation means you have eggs all over your yard or your carpet in the house. You can clean with shampoo and spray and still they come back because the eggs are still hatching after you spray and this is why you need the risidual from Pyrethrin or lindane to combat new arrivals and within a few weeks after all eggs have hatched they die immediately and you can once again enjoy a good clean living with animals in your house and no flea problems.
People have to understand that keeping a dog or cat in the house will bring fleas so you have to exterminate at least twice a year on the yard and in the house and always use pyrethrin on the animals when you bathe them and your flea problem will dissapear.
If you want to see if you have an infestation in your house the best way is to get a plate and place a candle two inches high in the middle of the plate. Drip some wax on the plate so that the candle will stay in place and pour some water on the plate so that it surrounds the candle, but don't fill up the entire plate with water. Leave about two inches from the edge to stay dry for them to jump on .
Get a white linen sheet and fold it in half and then fold it again and lay it down on the carpet and place the plate with the water in the middle of the white sheet.
DO THIS AT NIGHT
Turn off all the lights in the house so that it is pitch dark and the only light is the candle burning in the middle of the plate,
Within 30 minutes if you have an infestation you will see all the fleas line up jump on the plate and jump right into the flame of the candle. and fall into the water killed instantly.,.\
This is so amazing to watch you will literally trip out looking at it. The fleas line up like soldiers in a line and one by one they jump to their death.
If you see them line up like ants you have an infestation.
Good Luck
It has been a pleasure telling you my story how to combat fleas and I hope my information has been helpful for you.
The chemicals can be purchased at your local "Do it your self Pest control".

1 wash dog with liquid treatment that kills fleas and there eggs
2 treat floor, dog bed, and furniture (even if fido is not allowed on it) with powder and vacuum
3 spread table salt (mortons seems to work the best) on carpets and leave it down for 48 hours. the table salt absorbs the moisture from the eggs preventing them from hatching. it also does the same thing with dormant fleas killing them before they can lay more eggs. it is also safe for your family and pets. after the 48 hours vacuum up the salt.
4 next time you see fleas on your pets vacuum everything and put salt on your carpet for 48 hours. you'll stop the infestation before it starts.
