My dog is constantly shaking his head and scratching at his ears. I have looked inside and I do not see anything. The last time he did this though he did have mites. What do they look like and can you actually see them without a magnifying glass? Also does anyone know any home remedies or must I take him to the vet?

I've had a male dwarf hamster for about a year now. Sometimes I notice he has what I like to call a "goopy" eye, only one eye though, and it looks like its almost shut. But the weird part is, it's only like this for awhile. I'll take him out of his cage and his eye will be like that and after I've played with him for awhile his eye will go back to normal? He has no other symptoms, still very active, still big appetite. I was just wondering what could be wrong with him. Thanks!

my 2nd dog is a Golden Retriever puppy. The Lhasa won't allow the puppy to eat in the house so I have to feed him outside or else the Lhasa attacks him. I try to keep food outside for him so that when I let him out he can eat, but I keep seeing this cat eating his food! I am not a cat hater or anything, but I like to monitor how much my dog is eating and it is kind of hard to do with this cat coming around. Any suggestions? Me actually grabbing the cat and calling the city isn't an option because I am highly allergic. I have squirted it with a water bottle, but he still came back.

I have a plan. What do you think if there would be a law enacted that would require a 3 day waiting period before purchasing a pet? I know the local pound will not allow same day adoptions. So, what if we required breeders and pet stores to do the same? Do you think that would cut down on the amount of animals that are abandoned at the pound because of "buyer’s remorse"? Do you think that it would decrease the amount of pet store puppies because people would like twice about buying one if they had to spend three days to think it over? If the AKC required proof that the new owners waited for this waiting period, or the dog couldn't be registered, maybe that could help? Maybe that would be the way to control the amount of people out there who own these poor dogs that can't care for them?

I think if we need to have a 3 day waiting period on buying a gun because of the harm it can cause, than we should have the same on buying a dog or a cat for the same reasons! What do you think?

Her father is american pit and her mother is red nose pit. I got her when she was only 1 week old now she is 4 weeks old and she growls and bites me and my husband just about everytime we try to touch her. She is to small to pop on her rear end. I've tried everything from holding her until she calms down to...rewarding her only when she is well behaved. She is not mean 100% of the time but i have to get her completely tame. Do you have any advice for me?

I have just got a cat from a rescue centre. I need to find a name that suits her, she's a bit odd looking! She's black and a bit mangy looking(but in perfect health) She also has no teeth so her tongue hangs out to one side! I know she doesn't sound the most attractive cat but I felt she deserved a chance. She's a lovely girl so lets try and find her a nice name!

I've got 2 Fancy Male Guppies, 3 Gold White Cloud Minnows, and 4 Bumble Bee Gobies. I know that Bumble Bee Gobies are carnivorous, but right now they are maybe half an inch. I got 3 White Clouds since they are a schooling fish, so they feel more comfortable...Is this safe? If not what can I do.

I have a 15 week old purebred female Australian terrier puppy who has an overbite, meaning that her lower jaw is shorter than her upper jaw and because of that overbite, she needs to have her teeth brushed. I'm well aware that dogs chew in order to remove plaque and tartar from their teeth, but my puppy's overbite prevents that from happening to her front teeth in her upper and lower jaws, which is why I have to manually brush her teeth.
I've never had to brush a dog's teeth before I got my puppy, but now that I have her, I don't know how many times a day I should brush her teeth. I've been brushing her teeth once a day, but should I be brushing them twice a day or even after she eats?

I read in another question where someone asked how many peach/cherry/plum pits they would have to eat before it killed them and the answer to the question explained that all of said pits contain a natural form of cyanide called amygdalin and that it has killed cattle and hogs who have eaten fallen peaches... A few minutes ago, I fed my 1 year old Golden Retriever the middle of a ripe plum, covered with meat, but still with the pit inside. Stupidly, I had forgotten that plums even had pits and before I could do anything, she swallowed it, without even chewing on the pit. I feel terrible and I'm worried that with a poisonous pit this could kill her. Will the pit just pass the next time she poops or is she going to get sick?

We had 2 rats and 2 gerbils in separate cages. They are all nice friendly little guys. During play time the rats have visited the gerbils through the bars. The rats have never been aggressive but the gerbils have been curious and excited about the rats. Sadly, one of our rats has died (she was over 3) We do not plan on replacing her. Have rats and gerbils ever been able to share a cage? I know they are natural prey and predator. Our surviving rat is the same age as our gerbils, less than 2. They seem to get along through the bars.
