I wouldn't. The various cichlids would give him a really bad time.

It's been a long time since I've had fish, but I love Clown Loaches. They are very shy and need to be only with others like them. The pleco should be okay but cichlid will not work at all. Loaches will jump right out of the tank if they get frightened. If I ever have another large tank, it will be only for Loaches. They are very cool fish.

Clown loaches can grow to 16 inches, although it is rare. The 55 would be a good size tank for now. You will probably have issues with aggression with all those cichlids. Your gourami will be the first victim. The loach will come second. Stick with cichlids, and get synodontis catfish if you want scavengers. Find a home for the gourami, and forget the loach.

Given the tankmates he'd be getting, it'd be tough to get a loach now. All of your fish (cichlids, gourami, red-tailed shark) are relatively aggressive. Although they may be quite small now, they will only get more territorial as they grow.

Loaches are great fish. Very laid back and friendly, even at larger size (I've never seen any bigger than ~5 inches, btw). I had a pair that kept each other company for 4 years with a handful of other community species.
Unfortunately, I would not recommend them with your current inhabitants (even in your future bigger setup).

I'm glad that you checked before just buying them!

You cannot add any more fish to your tank, as it is already over stocked.

Wait until you get the 55 gallon up and fully cycled before you add any additional fish to the tank.

Your mix of fish right now is not the best and IMO is asking for trouble. Depending on the species the african cichlid can be very aggressive and the firemouth certainly will become very aggressive to your tank mates.

no no no no no no no the loach is a very mush edible fish to other carnivores in the tank all of the fish in your tank have defense mechanisms, the loach does not. I made the mistake of putting on in a tank with an oscar.....needless to say it disappeared.

No, and clown loaches should be kept in packs of 5 or more, Like neon tetra should be kept in schools.
