I feed my 4 month French Bulldog puppy Natural Balance Duck + Potato. I notice that he scratches his back paws and lower belly area quite often. He has a couple of small red spots on his belly. Could this be a food allergy or fleas? I have cleaned my house thoroughly and recently bath him and checked his coat and found no traces of fleas.

The pet food store recommended Wellness Venison + Rice food. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good allergy food or any other ideas?

Thanks!

I have a 11 month old Black Lab who seems to be constantly itching.
She has no fleas... I tried the dog dandruff shampoo... I changed her food... This spray made with avacados...
I'm pretty much stuck... Any ideas?

He is a Ori-Pei almost 5 months old. At first I thought he was just peeing in his bed in his cage. He had never any accidents before. But then he was snuggled next to me while I was watching TV and he was sleeping and he just started peeing. I picked him up and he woke up and stopped. So he is peeing in his sleep. Is he having wet dreams? Is it something that will stop when I neuter him? Does it have anythign to do with the fact that he is wimpering sometimes in his sleep? Thanks for any help.

my older cat is very friendly and loves attention and he gets LOADS of it!plenty of cuddling and treats..could he be threatened by the new kitten? and if so how can we show him there is nothing to fear, I haven't changed the way I interact with him I even make more time than ever to play with him etc..still all he wants to do is pick on the new kitten I feel sorry for her because its her second night away from her litter and she hasn't gotten any good attention from our older cat on the other hand, I am worried about my original cat suffering from stress and possibly a change in his temperment

I am a major animal lover so when I discovered a rat in my house I decided to use a humane trap to get him out. I was planning on releasing him once I caught him. Anyway after about a week I still hadnt caught him. So then each week we tried a different trap while leaving the remainders up ( including glue and snap traps,) but to no avail. we cant catch him. He lives behind my stove and apparantly is too smart for my traps. What should I do? Will calling an exterminator really work?

my shih tzu has fleas and it's affecting me as well. shampoo and ointments are so temporary and i dont want the maintenance of doing this every month. i was hoping for something more permanent where fleas are "bye bye, i don't need a postcard" type of deal. a flea collar is ideal, unfortunately my puppy mattes because of his fur coat and he also needs his coat for fall and winter. are there any other solutions? like, a flea collar especially for shih tzus? because, i am also being affected by this; i have a coloring book of connect-the-dots all over my legs and my back.

so sad.

are there any flea collars for shihtzus or solutions of getting rid of them forever?

I'm not sure but theres alot of firecrackers being played now.

My mongrel is starting to sleep longer, is very warm, and seems to be very cold....
He is also less active and has lots of flu.
He vomitted once and is coughing. theres alot of visitors in my house too (they are healthy) but i give my dogs eat their leftovers with their saliva.

can smoke cause allergies to dogs because i had been burning rubbish before which has cause even more smoke and never affected my dogs. so as many types of saliva.

We recently got a kitten as company for our older kitty (as my husband and I work nights) I know it usually takes awhile for new cats to warm up to each other but, my older cat seems very agressive always hissing, batting and growling at the kitten no matter if she's sleeping or off doing her own thing. I'm just wondering what is normal..how long will my older cat be doing this for and what can I do if this behaviour doesn't digress.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I have 2 cats, and recently one of them has stopped cleaning himself properly after using the tray. First I noticed he kept having a dirty bum, so I had to clean it for him. Then I also noticed a strong odour of urine. I decided to try using baby wipes to help, but I read that they shouldn't be used because the cat will lick off the chemicals from them. Should I stop using them? If so, can anyone recommend anything else that's more pet-friendly?

My cat is slightly overweight and I've been told this may be why it's hard for him to clean himself. However, he is 5 yrs. old and has been overweight for a while and this only began recently. I'm worried that he may have some sort of infection. What are some other signs that I should look for that may indicate this? I'll probably go to the vet if this continues, but I just thought I'd ask for some advice from others who may have been in a similar situation. Thanks in advance for any help!

Ok my dauchie mix Maggie had been in "heat" for about two months now! They say she is in heat because of her swollen back end! She has also become very aggressive towards our other dog Bud! People say they souldn't be in heat longer than 2 weeks! Its been 2 months, no joke! Is something wrong with her? I want to get her fixed and they say i can't until she is no longer in heat! Is that true? Also what are the ups and downs of getting her fixed? i want her to calm down, and be nice to our other dog like she was 2 months ago! Any suggestions would be great! Thanks in advance!

My 6 month old kitten, Missy, has a hard bump on her nose. All the fur on her nose is hard and there is a bump the size of a 5c coin on top of it. I was going to take her to the vet to see what it was but thought that it was nothing.
She is ginger coloured but the bump on her nose is going a light orange/pale cream colour.

She doesn't like me touching it or touching anywhere around her nose... any suggestions on what this could be and how I can treat it...?

Very weird situation here. We feed the dogs regularly but for some reason they like to eat dirt. There is one spot off the back porch that they regulary excavate. And it does not matter whether it is new dirt or old dirt, they keep eating it. Anybody know why?

My roomate recently came into possession of a Scottish Terrier after having taken him in for the night twice as a result of his previous owner's neglect.
This dog's original name was Jaques. (Pronounced "Jock".)
I was asked to come up with a different name for the dog after repeatedly pointing out the odd idea of giving a Scottish dog a French name.
What's more, the only way this man can even remember the dod's name at 75 years of age is because I made a reference to a jock-strap while cracking a bad joke about it. I've been told that my roomate bitterly resents the thoughts that come to mind as a result of this and it has further motivated me to find another name for the animal.
Calling the dog Strap is simply the extent of my creativity so I have decided to request help from the Answers community.
I understand that it helps somewhat if a description of the dogs personality is given so here it is:
The dog is black, oddly quiet and incredibly smart.
