I am a major animal lover so when I discovered a rat in my house I decided to use a humane trap to get him out. I was planning on releasing him once I caught him. Anyway after about a week I still hadnt caught him. So then each week we tried a different trap while leaving the remainders up ( including glue and snap traps,) but to no avail. we cant catch him. He lives behind my stove and apparantly is too smart for my traps. What should I do? Will calling an exterminator really work?

I own 4 cats.. One of which is a kitten. My kitten caught the rat between his paws the otherday but someone walked by and startled the cat and the cat let the mouse go. He just ran right back under the stove. MY dogs ( chihuahuas ) bark at the stove all day and the rat doesnt care. Sometimes he pokes his head over the stove and just stares at me. I mean he doesnt even get scared. Anyway rat poision isnt an option as I have other pets in the home that can get to it. My dogs will eat it if its on the floor and my cats will eat it if its on the counters,

OHNO

OK you say you are an animal lover??? Then get those glue traps up at least... Snap traps too .. but for sure glue traps

Have you ever seen a rat or mouse get trapped on those?? ITS awful... I mean horriffic.... Not a human way to get him for sure!

Youc an call an exterminator and ask that he use a live trap to catch him and that you want to release him someplace else...

OR you can buy and use live traps around your home and do it yourself.. put down several... Pnut butter is good and make sure you clean out from under your stove or any other places he could be getting to food.... Pnut butter smelllsss and the smell carries...

I cant tell you enough about the other traps.....
Glue traps are the most inumane way to trap a rat or mouse.

Good Luck

seriously though, borrow a cat for a few days, she won't necessarily catch it, but the rat may go away when he feels the presence of the cat. Of course, you must leave an escape route for the rat to leave, but be careful not to lose the cat, because they have a tendency to wander around, especially if they don't know the home well. Leave a very small opening somewhere, that the cat cannot open more or pass through. I agree with Wismom for the rest. Also you may try those ultrasound devices that send rodents away.

There's a rat in my house I don't know how its got in, and now that my landlords have put draft excluders everywhere its stuck. Everything about it is making me itch. My cat and dog bichon are now in my back living room waiting for it. I'm mortified, I'm only been here since February. My cat can catch rats, will it eventually come out so billy can kill it!
