Pets - 27 September 2006

I keep reading that they are social animals and great pets, but my boyfriend and I are starting to get offended. One of them acknowledges me everytime I come home cuz I have bribed him with food, but when I pick him up, I can't help get the feeling he wants me to leave him alone. The other one apparently will not be bribed with food, and I barely pick him up cuz I can barely catch him. When I do pick him up his heart beats so fast and doesn't seem to slow down. I wonder if it ever does. To boot, we had that one longer, so you would think it would like us by now. We are nice people, lots of people like us. Why don't our guinea pigs?

im thinking of purchasing a small dog. I have had experience with yorkies. my yorkies passed away, i do not want another one=[ im not sure which breed to get. I want one that doesnt get too big, but that isnt so small its like a teacup and has health issues. I would also prefer a breed that sheds little to no hair. I have checked the shelters in my area and have found nothing. Could anyone give me an idea of good breeds? It would be an inside dog(of course going outside to play daily).

my yorkie whines up close and personal. she will sit on my husbands lap and look him right in the face and whine until he gets on the floor and plays with her. we cant do this 24-7. she is the greatest pup in the world except for this. weve tried to spray her with a spray bottle of water, it didnt faze her. we've yelled at her (it broke our hearts, for we adore her.) and we've tried to ignore her... help! ant suggestions will be appreciated, thanks.

She had a puppy earlier today at around 12 noon and since then she hasn't had any more. I checked her and she seems to be doing pretty good. She already ate and drank water but no more babies. Do you think thats all she's gonna have? Anybody else that has had this situation before?

She chews the little handle part off and then later, I have to pull it (slowly) out of her butt. How do I get her to stop. I try to hide the bags, but she finds them anyway...

like... astronauts need an oxygen tank to be able to breath in space, but since fish have gills and "breath" water. would it be possible to bring a fish to space if it was sealed in a plastic bag filled to the brim with water???

I'm considering getting another dog, and my husband is partial to beagles. I grew up with the breed, so I know how great they are and decided to check on a purebred rescue site. There will be a group of young (±2 yrs old) purebreds coming to the rescue, but they were rescued from labs. Supposedly they are very sweet, but don't really know how to act like dogs.

Has anyone ever rescued a lab animal, and if so were there additional issues you would need to address because of their history? I have another dog, and have heard that it's good for these rescues to be in a household with another dog, so it can learn how to "act like a dog," and my dog now LOVES other dogs, so it seems like it would be a win/win situation...but I was curious if anyone has had trouble socializing such a dog?

Its not mating, i'm sure of that. The small grasshopper is perched atop the back of a large grasshopper. The small one is about one knuckle long while the big one is the size of my index finger. Not really a pet question but really no other catagory for it

ive been reading several sites on the net regarding mystery snails,i have two gold mystery snails and two i belive to be normal colored mystery snails,according to several sites mystery snails and apple snails are one in the same all of my snails are between quater sized and golf ball sized,and is there anyway to distinguish male from female ,as the type of snails mystery /apple have to have male and female to breed,unlike mt snails which go and do there thing by themselves,,however any one with any info on this will be much appreciated,and to the dorks out there ,,(keep it to yourself) ,,,,.thank you in advance!

I have tried having them ignore her when they come in the house. I try to put her in the crate but sometimes I don't get her in there fast enough and the deed is done. What can I do? How do I train her to stop? She socializes with plenty of people and dogs.
