Do a little research on the type of dog you would like...there are some like Yorkies and Maltese that do not shed a lot. There are some that do not even bark much. Do your research and present it to them in a mature and responsible way. The first person was right also...you need to show them you are ready for that responsibility. Taking care of another living thing is a HUGH responsibility.....You can't just start neglecting it because you are bored with it. Good luck.

By your typing, you don't sound mature enough to handle a dog. But anyways... Show that you are responsible. Don't bring up the topic alot. Maybe after a few weeks of not asking them, show them some clips of petstar off of the internet with dogs or something that will impress your parents. Still don't ask. Do chores, keep up grades, and other responsibilities. Maybe ask for something easier for a while. Like a fish, hampster, kitten, ect. Take care of that. Eventually, over time, your parents will accept that you are responsible. NEVER bring up the subject or they will think that you will only act responsible until after you get the pet. When maybe the smaller pet they get you passes away (not by overfeeding, underfeeding, or anything that was your fault. Maybe then they will trust you to get a dog. It may take a few years, depending on your commitment, and your parents. But trust me, its worth it.
I'm in highschool (freshman) taking out of school courses to be a vet, I own two dogs and two kittens. I will also be getting a pet snake soon, maybe fish, lovebirds, canaries, hampsters ect. My mom likes pets, but she thought that I was mature enough to take care of my own (buy the food, bathe it, ect) at 7. I did it right, with a little help, weird for a kid so young... and now over the years she trusts me with almost any pet. I am getting extra credits so I can guaduate early and head off to college for a rehabilitation liscense, a vet degree, a wild animal handler lisense, ect. =) Good luck!

I know how that goes, my parents never let me have one either, so when I moved out I got 2 cats and a dog.
It can be hard to convince them, but you can type something up and sign it saying you will do all the chores involving the dog if they let you have one, you will be responsible and take care of the dog always.

If your parents have views like this, you not be able to convince them to get you a dog. However, you could just wait a while until you are old enough to be on your own, and then get a dog. You have to be willing to take care of such a big responsibility!

okay, u need to prove to ur parents why a dog is right for you. explain that while they may not like dogs, u happen to love them. also u HAVE TO PROVE THAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE ENOUGH. its all about responsibility. try taking up a dog-walking job to show them u know how to deal with dogs and such. promise to train ur dog and such (offer helping to pay for training courses). also state that since u r now an only child, having a dog would be a good companion and good way for u to gain responsibility :)

show them that you are responsible and that you will take care of it. You may have to start out with a fish or something first to show you can take care of it.

Sounds like there is no convincing your parents. You may just have to wait until you are living out on your own, making your own money.
